A possible treasure trove

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

A possible treasure trove

Post by RoseTintedSpectrum »

Hello folks - apologies for the possibly horrendously formatted post, currently away on a mini break but I've been contacted by a lovely chap who worked for Spectrum Research in the 80s who has an absolute trove of stuff and he wants to know what to do with it. My initial thoughts were the Computer Museum, but now I'm wondering if any of this stuff needs archived BEFORE that, any ideas?

Heres the list of stuff he has found so far...

Marvellous!

Some of the books have been scanned already, but the other stuff would be excellent to scan if you can.

I've had a word with the Computing Museum and it seems they scan and archive digitally for free as well, had no idea! I've asked him if he can get some pictures to me in the meantime, would be interesting to see what he has!

An update on this, I've hopefully got Dr Ian Logan an interview with RetroManCave, as he'd be able to do a much better job than I ever could - NostalgiaNerd has also suggested we get some of that rare stuff scanned and archived onto archive.org so currently trying to get those two linked up as well, as NN has the facilities to do that. After that, we're going to look at him donating his stuff to the Computer Museum.

All good stuff!

Thanks all!

Another update - the Computer Museum have got in touch with him and will be taking charge on scanning/archiving all the items, which is great to hear.

Dr Logan has also decided to start up his own website, he says it's early work at the moment, and will change over time, but the basics are there and the URL should remain the same throughout. Lots of interesting stuff up already!

Hi everyone,
First time posting here...

My name is Joao Diogo Ramos and some of you may know me and the LOAD ZX Spectrum Museum in Portugal that I co-founded.

A friend referred this post to me - I am normally more on social media, but I will be coming back more and more from now on.

It seems the matter is already taken care of which is a good thing. It is fundamental that we do not loose parts of the history that was so important to so many of us.

Over here we have been documenting in much detail the timex Portugal story and we work closely to Planeta Sinclair (Andre Leão) in their preservation efforts.

For those that may not know us yet, you can find more information in the website or Facebook, TripAdvisor, etc...
https://www.loadzx.com/en/

We are the first museum solely dedicated to the Spectrum and everything that surrounded it (all things Sinclair, timex, investronica, microdigital, etc).

If I can help in any way, let me know.

If you come to Portugal, pay us a visit and let me know to try to meet new friends.

Happy new year.

Cheers.

Apologies for the delayed response - so far as I'm aware, the Computing Museum have it in hand but due to Covid restrictions, they're waiting until lockdown is lifted so they can pick up the items (rather than rely on post, probably a sensible option!).
