Robin of Sherlock (Delta 4)

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

Looks clearly like a pirate copy. The top part (ie the inside of the inlay) seems to have been photocopied from the original Silversoft inlay. The bottom part (ie outside) appears to have been produced on an Amstrad word processor, copying the text of the original inlay and adding a hand-drawn illustration, presumably as the original inlay did not photocopy well.

Do we preserve pirate copies?

It's worth noting that the tape contents are different to the files currently in the archive.

Rather than "Silversoft" on the loading screen, it has copyright CRL 1986 on the loading screen.

Confusingly, the file tagged "1986 CRL release" in the database has Silversoft on the loading screen... perhaps indicating that it's not the CRL re-release file.

I've asked Fergus about that version of the game; although I know, from experience interviewing people, that memories aren't always accurate about these things.

It's worth noting that one of the Bored of the Rings in the archive...

The Bored very closely resembles the Robin of Sherlock... in terms of black clam... reuse of the commercial map... and the (fairly complicated/detailed) cassette label...

I do not preserve pirate copies, or at least I don´t make it available for the community.

Fergus kindly took the time to respond...

I mentioned people thought the game might have been a pirated version...

No, it's definitely legit. I have dim memories of my dad driving me back from the duplicators with the boxes of freshly made cassettes :-)

Fair enough. My mistake. I'm surprised CRL were producing such amateurish inlays in 1986.

No worries. From where I come from (Portugal), piracy was the daily basis and I have hundreds (maybe thousands) of pirate tapes. But this one came from the UK... :)

Interesting thread.

So we can consider it the CRL re-release, right?
