Help wanted - CSS CGC entries

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

Help wanted - CSS CGC entries

Post by R-Tape »

If anyone is looking to help and wants a project to focus on then this thread is for you!

The archive is lacking screenshots and info checking for most Comp Sys Sinclair Crap Games competition entries.

If you want to help here’s what to do:

1 - Pick a year after 2001 and announce it in this thread to avoid duplication.
2 – find the year, using the SC search, e.g. CSS CGC 2001
3 – the SC page for this will have a list of entries and a .zip bundle of them all. Download the bundle.
4 – Load each game, check the SC page has the title spelt correctly and the correct author is attributed. Make a Notepad or Excel list of any corrections stating the title, and a note describing the correction.
5 – Take screenshots as .scr. 1 loading screen (if there is one) and 1 in game screen will be fine. Details on how to do this here.
6 – zip the screenshots and correction list and make available to me, either PM me so we can arrange or upload somewhere.

This mission requires a strong stomach, but the rewards will be beyond your wildest dreams.

Anyone?

Good year that, hosted by BloodBaz. My first ever Speccy programs too.

One of my games has the wrong title
search for "FLICKING" and lists the archive.
FLICKING CLING SNOT ON MY CAT
it should be
FLICKING CLINT SNOT ON MY CAT

Great game that!

I will do 2016. Not much happened that year and my time is somewhat limited at the moment.

My time is moony so I'll just ventilate the unpleasant odours from 2013. When time permitting!!
For Gosh's sack, spare us listing crap entries on search results :o

I will have a crack at 2003

But for example, https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=30775

Antiair has no attribution, no load screen and no info in the listing who actually wrote it..

I was thinking if its available the listings would make a good pdf, kind of like the old school basic game books.

Nice one.

Yep some of them will have more blanks than others, many will not have a loading screen so a run screen will be fine. Some of them may have extra information at the unsatisfactory software finder. Antiair isn't there though...

I'll take 2013 by the way, as I've already added some of them (Kweepa and Guesser), and as host that year I've developed a Stockholme syndrome like affection for them.

That would be great (fantastic year that, overtake the Pope and The Boris Becker tennis still make me chuckle).

If we're going down the host collates route then it's Digital Prawn we should feel sorry for...

Lol these these comp's are the programming equivalent of a Lemarchand's box. I figured I would get a ton done but I ended up wasting way to much time playing the games

Brilliant, thanks a lot.

Don't forget that screenshots should be give the correct names:

So the 2007 CSS CGC game "Zuzzle Xobble" has ZXDB ID 30999 (which you get from the web address bar of the game's entry).

So the loading screen should have this name:

0030999-load-1.scr

And the in game screen should have this name:

0030999-run-1.scr

I've not downloaded the 2015 entries yet, so if anyone wants to do them then please go ahead with them.

You can't lick the donut and put it back on the shelf!

(or is cowpat more appropriate?)

Just to be clear - have you just bagsied or unbagsied 2015? No-one's claimed it.

I've licked the donut and put it back on the shelf, taken the 10% free portion from the packet and added a bottle of wine to my wine gums. Tasty!
It remains unclaimed.

But seriously I would be happy to help out with this if I had the free time. Sadly I don't at the moment (or for the forseeable future), apologies for that. So if anyone else is brave enough to take on 2008, then please feel free. Although it is not a decision to be taken lightly. It is a great initiative to get the CGC entries fully sorted in the archive. Thanks to R-Tape for starting this thread. :D

I started poking at 2008... I hadn't 'played' any of these before I don't think, so it's pretty fun.
Is there a deadline? I'll probably only manage 4-5 a day, so I might not be the best person to tackle the problem.
