Games distributed by Czerweny in Argentina

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

Games distributed by Czerweny in Argentina

Post by druellan »

I can see there are a couple of games tagged as distributed by Czerweny Electronica S.A.I.C. (Argentina) on the database:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=912
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=1797

I can add the following titles

Original name - URL - local name

First edition:

Time Gate - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=5286 - La Hermandad del Tiempo Ataca
Pssst - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=9401 - Psst
3D Interceptor - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=2493 - Interceptor
Arcadia - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=237 - Arcadia Invadida
3D Quadracube - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=3966 - Quadracube

Second edition:

Trashman - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=5391 - El Basurero
Jet Set Willy - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=2589 - Willy va a Dormir
Manic Miner - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=3012 - Willy en las Cavernas
Driller Tanks - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=1524 - Taladro
Babaliba - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=358 - Babaliba
Cyber Rats - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=1192 - Ratas!!!

I still need to match two titles to their original names: Boum (could be "Armageddon"), and Asalto al Banco).

I have the original inlays but no scanner, so, I'm going to try and capture a good quality photograph of them.

The important question - did they release it officially, with all licenses or not?

Thanks for the information!

What do you mean with "first edition" and "second edition"?

I was investigating exactly that, and I can't find a clear confirmation. Seems plausible they had an obvious arrangement with Sinclair Research and perhaps other Spanish publishers like Investronica or Ventamatic, but there are titles that look suspicious like Arcadia, Babaliba or 3D Quadracube.

I'm updating a small spreadsheet to keep track of things.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

The fact that Czerweny is already listed as a publisher for Chequered Flag and Flight Simulator makes me think someone got information or just decided they had permission by Sinclair Research (no idea why Pssst was left out). I hope I can confirm at least that part.

Anyway, we can left this thread open to see if we can gather more information before making changes to the database. I'm going to check the physical copies this weekend, perhaps there is more information there.

At some point they changed the inlay design:

The original release was like:

And then they changed to:

Hi! I took the time to review this further and I have an interesting discovery, or two.

First, I was wrong about the "second edition". Turns out they have "CZ" on the label, which is the abbreviation for Czerweny, but there is no Czerweny copyright or mention to be found, so, they have no visible relation to the manufacturer, and we can assume they are not "legal" copies.

BUT

There is one game that has a copyright notice, and it is this one:

So, this game is probably developed here in Argentina, and distributed by this company. I'm going to try and take an image of the tape.

Regarding the other tapes, I'm going to discard the "CZ" ones, and focus on the Czerweny ones.
