Sometimes there is the author of the game.
Sometimes there is the company who provided a physical release of the game.
Sometimes there is the Original Publisher empty.
If the game was originally released by a company that provided a physical release of the game, or even if the authors preferred to release it officially by a third-party website instead of themselves, then that's the publisher.

Otherwise, the authors decided to release it themselves (or under a company name they created). In this case, that's the publisher.

The original publisher should never be empty. Whenever it's currently empty, it just means we didn't identify how it was released yet.

Well, some example will be the best.

What about this game?

Rafal (an author) published this game directly on this forum. Why is the publisher empty? What do we need to identify on it? ;-)

You can thank (blame!) me for this lacuna. The rule I chose was that if there was a company name associated with the game I would log the publisher and an author, but if there is only a person - as in Pav's Wunderwaffe example - I only logged the author.

So presumably Wunderwaffe should be publisher and author Rafal Miazga? If yes I'll make a list of corrections and be sure to do this in future.

Sorree, I'm making it up as I go along to some extent...

That's a question. If so then every the first physical release, which will appear sometimes later, will be always associated as re-release?

Here is the second example. Farmer Jack Trilogy from Bob Smith. The author usually publishes his games under Cronosoft.

Two parts are associated with Cronosoft as an original publisher.
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=18873
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=16793

The third part is associated with Bob Smith as an original publisher and Cronosoft is the first re-releaser.
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=21583

(I know these informations was taken over from old WoS.)

But what I want to say. If I will begin to prepare inlays for new titles, it would be good to have clear rules to determinate an original cassette inlay and a re-release cassette inlay.

It depends.

If the author releases the game as direct download first, then later decides to re-release it as physical tape, then the latter is a re-release.

But if author releases the game originally as both direct download and physical tape, then that's a single release. Even if it takes longer for the physical copies to be manufactured... In this case, it makes sense to list the tape publisher as the original publisher.

Yep, it makes sense. Only it will be quite difficult to identify it backwards in many cases.

Correct Release year for Sid Spanners - The Complete Collection is 2014, not 2012, how I have found in the history of this FB page.
