Spec Resolutions 2018

Post by R-Tape »

Any Speccy resolutions for next year? Here are mine:

-Make a text adventure, or some mixed text icon driven adventure game
-I should probably finish Edge Grinder now that I've released a demo!
-Make something I can call my masterpiece
-Complete Manic Miner (on bread and water, no cheating)

If I manage one of these I'll be happy :D

My Speccy resolution is the same as it has always been: 256x192

Sorry, if I didn't then someone else would

To get Morkin to write another Balachor game.

(That's my 2019 resolution, as well. ;) )

2018 - Will create a crap game written in assembly for the spectrum. Once I have the template figured out, I will shamelessly do re hashes for the rest of the year (joke, ok perhaps a little bit true.)

Unlike most of my new year's resolution this is already under way, got the toolchain setup and I had nearly all the books I needed for this already (been planning this for a while lol...)

Does not compute..! Sounds like it might accidentally turn out to be 'good'...

Haha..! Well if I start on 1st January there's a chance it might be finished mid 2020 I think...

Heh..

I'd love to retire early and dedicate a bit more time to Speccy stuff. Maybe if I win the lottery. But I've reduced my chances of that somewhat, by not doing the lottery.

I'd like to finish some of my game projects that I started around 2010-2013 when I really had a "flow" and was coding like crazy.

I often switched from project to project to avoid boredom and as a result there are several unfinished projects on my hard drive. Later worse days came and I lost motivation which I'm currently trying to regain. With some small successes I can already say ;)

I'm going to try and finish my graphical adventure game engine and then actually attempt to write a game with it. So far, the engine is estimated to only take up 6K, so I'll have around 30K for the game data itself.

Sounds interesting, has this been shared anywhere yet or just a private project?

In no particular order:
 • Finish Knockabout.
 • Do full games / more levels with the code I developed for Twelve Days and Black and White Christmas.
 • Write something with proper moving sprites.

 • Start on my Spectrum Next game
 • Finish off Brexit: The Final Countdown.
Bob the Space Janitor can wait for a bit.

Both games have been worked on to finish them off but Brexit: TFC is in most need of finishing and can be done quickly.

I do also have the GPD Win on the way, so that should help with the dev side of things.

It hasn't been shared anywhere yet but I'll probably post something about it when I've gotten the engine to a usable state for real game development. Right now, the base graphics routines and script interpreter have been written, fully debugged and are ready for use, but the more complex bits like the redraw manager and the user interface manager still need to be implemented and then tested.

Now that Lost In My Spectrum has been 'rebooted', I want to apply the same treatment to Apulija-13 and Funky Fungus. With a better AGD at my disposal, and the experience I accumulated in the past few years, I am sure I can make them better and more enjoyable than ever ;)

Happy New Year folks! :D

Soooo, how did we get on? Here are mine from 12 months ago in this very thread...
-Make a text adventure, or some mixed text icon driven adventure game
Nope.
-I should probably finish Edge Grinder now that I've released a demo!
No.
-Make something I can call my masterpiece
Nope. Though I released some stuff that I was fairly pleased with.
-Complete Manic Miner (on bread and water, no cheating)
Failed.
If I manage one of these I'll be happy :D

How did you get on? If you did manage to complete it I hope I haven't burst your bubble by revealing that I completed it years ago, without cheating as well. :)

I supposed I did all speccy 2018, or at least I hope with only two days to finish :? but for 2019 resolutions...

- Play speccy games
- Try to learn how to make better games
- Play more speccy games
- Make at least one game
- Continue to play speccy games

Well, looks like procrastination wins again :D
Cheers.
