Re: Super Mario Bros Game & Watch
Which reminds me... I bought this little thing back in December, just for a punt. 150-odd games, some of them pretty good. Screen is bright and clear, and the battery lasts for ages. £7 from Ryman!
Just imagine getting something this ‘cool’ as a kid back in the 1970s/80s for so little cash. I think it’s insane that it’s possible to make something like this and sell it for £7, presumably at an acceptable profit.

Re: Super Mario Bros Game & Watch
Interesting..thanks for the heads-up. I might get one.
Re: Super Mario Bros Game & Watch
Seems like a lot of money to play a 35 year old game.
They should preload it with a lot of Game & Watch games.

Paraphrasing the inimitable Bill Hicks: "...they're going for that retro dollar..."

Looks like Ryman have stopped selling it as have Robert Dyas (both owned by Theo Paphitis of Dragons Den fame)
Anyway, quick check on eBay and they have the same thing, without the branding:

The screen is a little small for my ageing eyesight, but I'm sure great for younger members, especially at that price. I would love to take one apart!
Re: Super Mario Bros Game & Watch
Another handheld from Nintendo that's inferior to the GameBoy Micro? Genius.

I hadn't heard of the Gameboy Micro before Joefish. Thanks for mentioning it.

Re: Super Mario Bros Game & Watch
Is there no end to the ways in which Nintendo wrings yet more cash out of the same old games? Re-releases, Virtual Console, Mini consoles, Game & Watch...
And to be honest, I know it's a sacred cow, but I find Super Mario Bros bloody overrated. It's decent enough game, but with a frustratingly imprecise mechanic of jumping on monsters' heads and the first one particularly is quite repetitive. As you go down the line it's just the usual formulaic Nintendo - do a few levels then kill the boss guy by jumping on his head or letting him run into a wall 3 times - always 3. I know people love them, but I find it difficult to separate what is actually great about these games and what is just mythology created by some big corporate machine that Nintendo is only a part of.
Even then, I'd quite like one of these. That is how good Nintendo are at selling this stuff...

I love the micro - its hard deny the attraction of a GB that literally fits in any pocket. It's my second fav after the GBA SP. I have a few GBAs I've renovated with IPS screens and the like, but the micro just needs a new battery and away you go.PeterJ wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 8:32 pmI hadn't heard of the Gameboy Micro before @Joefish.
