Neo Geo Mini

Post by Juan F. Ramirez »

Following the trend of mini versions of computers & consoles, SNK will launch Neo Geo Mini soon (next summer in Japan), with 40 installed games:

A good thing is that It's got HDMI cable but like similar gadgets you can't add more games so it's useless for me :(

You’ve got to be a serious beat-them-up fan to buy that. Some great games no doubt but... too much king of fighters?

Yeah, too much fight games, a genre that I don't like much.

I'm not sure, I'll like an arcade in such a small factor

Doesn't seem to be the best possible form factor, for something like this.
It takes away, part of the feeling, of playing in an Arcade.

It's also single player, apparently, given the controls available.
No connection between 2 devices is mentioned as possible, to play in 2 player rmodes.

No thanks, I'll stick with MAME :P

On the other hand, the Neo-Geo wasn't only big at fighting games although they took the largest share of its titles. The Metal Slug series originated on it, and several shoot-em-ups and puzzles were also released on it - Puzzle Bobble I & II, Captain Tomaday, Ghost Pilots, Blazing Star etc.

Found this recently, this time mini versions of arcade classics:

Not bad for that price, but too 'tiny' for me (I think I would need glasses to play! :P )

I have to agree - too many fighting games on it.
I love the Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive series, but I was never interested in 3D fighting games.
... it also seems a bit small to be able to play on confortably

The horizontal shooters are good.
The horizontal action games like Magician Lord and Roddy & Cathy look great but are a bit dull to play more than once or twice.
Worst are the vertical shooters like Ghost Pilots that are in landscape screen mode and scroll even further left and right, which when you can only shoot upwards makes for a very crap and unfair game.
