Can't think for the life of me, what the word was supposed to be?

rage?

maze?

“Take on” instead of “rape of”?

It should probably be 'tape' the 'R' key is right next to the 'T'.

Surely it should be "rage".

Why do you think it's a typo?...rape seems to fit, as in rape is often used...be it not really very politically correct as a description of when you utterly destroy something.

" I raped all their asses and won first prize" - as a poor example. It follows if you are going around killing all the robots...the word "rape" could be used as a descriptor.

I believe it's the correct spelling. We're all so familiar with its terminology as a sexual crime, but it also means "to plunder" and if you read the sentence in that context it makes more sense. Not very PC but I guess that was in a day and age when that didn't matter as much.

It's possible but with the given connotation I find it a strange choice of words.

It certainly did - I encountered the word "rape" back in 1978, and it was very much well known what it meant, even in the backwater farming community I lived in.

Anyway, it's either "rage" or "rise". I suspect "rage" as it was likely the person putting the print together from copy supplied by Crash read it wrong.

It was 1984, not 1640! The primary meaning of the word was already an act sexual violence, which would make no sense whatsoever. Moreover, I feel sure it would have been considered inappropriate even then (I would be very surprised if you found any other examples of Crash using the word that way).

I really think it is "rage". I think the expression "rage of the robots" occured in other places. Unfortunately the only relevant reference my Google-Fu has yielded is a Battle of the Planets episode.

If you look at the bottom of page 9 in Issue#1 you'll see where the makers of the Human Centipede films got their inspiration from :o
And you'll never look at that picture again the same way....hehehe.

You can take anything out of context if you try hard enough.

Yep, I think you've explained it well there mate. I remember doing a project on Vikings at school when I was about 10 (1983) and they were always described as a group of fighters that would 'rape and pillage'. These days you would never think of describing Viking as fighters who 'raped and pillaged' even thought it may well be factually correct.

Yeah, the pillaging was the destruction and theft of property. The rape part was the vikings having non-consensual sex with native ladies. They were not very nice when invading, but by all accounts they were a very noble people when not riled up.

Can you even rape a robot anyway? I don't think the technology is that far advanced that you need to get it's consent first. I'll ask my Roomba tonight.

Only if you're big-endian. To a Spectrum $6e6f means getting it "on".
Product of the 80s alright...
