Licence information

Re: Licence information
Our search does not look at the license information. There is no reason why it couldn't in the future.
Re: Licence information
This is probably a stupid question, but where do Lucozade and Adidas actually appear in Daley Thompson's Decathlon?

Re: Licence information
Adidas appears on outdoors in the background. Thus the reason I think it's an advert, which is kinda the opposite of a license. In the sense that Adidas probably paid Ocean to appear in these adverts, whereas Ocean probably paid Daley Thompson for the license to use his name in the game.
I don't think Lucozade appears anywhere, except credited in the loading screen. Since Lucozade was Daley Thompson's sponsor at the time, I'm assuming Lucozade co-owned the "Daley Thompson" brand, i.e their approval was needed on licensing Daley Thompson's name in this game.

OK. Definitely not licences, then.Einar Saukas wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 7:37 pmAdidas appears on outdoors in the background. Not necessarily.StooB wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 6:19 pm There are two other Adidas games, https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=85 and https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=87 .
Does an advertiser only become a licensor when their name is in the title?
But in both these games, Adidas is part of the main theme. They are promoted as games about real life competitions from Adidas. There's clearly a tie-in to Adidas brand in both cases.
In comparison, the main theme for Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge is obviously Daley Thompson. Adidas is not part of the theme, just background advertising dissociated with the gameplay. I don't think it should be marked as tie-in in this case.
Right now, searching for licenses related to Adidas in ZXDB will also bring up all 3 titles, since this information was imported from WoS. However I think this should be corrected.StooB wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 6:19 pmClicking on Adidas at WoS brings up all three titles: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseek ... loadpics=3
Re: Licence information
The player has to choose the correct Adidas footwear for each event. It is part of the game, not just in the background.Einar Saukas wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 7:57 pmAdidas is not part of the theme, just background advertising dissociated with the gameplay. Re: Licence information
Sorry but I still think that's also Adidas advertising, not something they included in the gameplay to make the game more fun.
Re: Licence information
What about Chewits, Skips, Dunlop tyres, Suzuki, Wimpy, Burger King, Toyota and Lotus cars? Do those brands make their games more fun? Your logic is inconsistent!Einar Saukas wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 12:06 pm Sorry but I still think that's also Adidas advertising, not something they included in the gameplay to make the game more fun.

Re: Licence information
Lotus cars, definitely. People would buy a race game saying "it's so cool I will drive a LOTUS CAR!" That's a licensed tie-in.
Dunlop tires, certainly not. Nobody would buy a race game saying "it's so cool I will drive a car using DUNLOP TIRES!" That's an advertising.
Even so, upon further inspection I recognize the distinction isn't always clear. For instance Whopper Chase is a promotional game for Burger King, so it's essentially advertising, but it's the main theme of the game thus it doesn't feel right to remove its association to the Burger King brand...
OK, I'm convinced. I will restructure ZXDB tables to support multiple licenses per game, and put Adidas license back into Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge. Unless anyone else wants to argue otherwise?

Re: Licence information
Since there were no objections, I just released another ZXDB version supporting multiple licenses (official tie-ins or unofficial inspirations) for the same title.
