How can we help with ZXDB?
I haven't been involved with ZXDB and frankly know very little about it. However, like Mike Davies in the other thread, I would like to help. Perhaps this question should wait for when the submission forms have been finished, but is there any way users like me can make a contribution? We have a nice growing community here of knowledgeable Speccy fans, and I suspect we have barely scratched the surface of what can be done with a collaborative approach with ZXDB.

Re: How can we help with ZXDB?
Sorry I missed this thread before!
Although other people already provided most answers. Basically ways you can help are:
Permissions: Catalogued files are an important part of ZXDB, but you cannot see most of them at Spectrum Computing without proper permissions. Helping to obtain permissions for Spectrum Computing (even better if they can be provided for all free sites) would assist ZXDB too. For more details see here.
Help Wanted: We currently need help on generating missing screenshots, investigating mismatching information about game credits, identifying music composers, load screen authors and cover artists. For more details see here.
Report errors/omissions: Whenever you see anything wrong or missing in ZXDB archive, please report
it to us! I mean the kind of help that people used to provide under Infoseek database section at WoS forum, but unfortunately nobody seem to bother anymore. This kind of assistance is very welcome here. This is the purpose of our ZXDB Discussion section here, please feel free to create new threads whenever needed!

Thank you!

Just to note to say that C.Born has withdrawn permission based on an argument that spawned from a thread that was deleted from Offtopic about online privacy.
The admins are discussing what to do.

Re: How can we help with ZXDB?
Hmm, withdrawing permission does seem like an over-reaction. The permission to host his titles here does not adversely impact his online privacy, the same titles are already hosted with permission in that other place. So this doesn't look like principled stand, but more of someone taking his ball home in face of an opposing opinion.
If the cost of acquiring permission is to allow unchallenged opinions, or having to shut down valid opinions in fear of people choosing to take offence, that's too high a cost.

Ralf I'm afraid I do think your comment was offensive to another person. I hope you edit it yourself, or moderation does.
I may not agree with the rant he posted, but I think it's no big deal. Everyone should be allowed to express their opinions. AFAIK he didn't attack anyone in particular, unlike your post.

Just to say the admins will have a chat after work, there are a few issues to go through and we will need to explain what's happened. Please can we avoid personal comments about C.Borne.
I think I'm getting gallstones.

I just want to say that I accept my comment being edited. I'll try to choose my words very carefully in future, similar cases.

Re: How can we help with ZXDB?
This subject was brought to a ZXDB thread, therefore I'm feeling almost obliged to post about it. However I'm holding my tongue until I know all the facts, before I post my opinion here.
And now you know how I felt whenever I had to debate ZXDB in another forum!
Re: How can we help with ZXDB?
I feel sorry for moderators/admin in situations like this. Still look at the positive side of this - it could have been a lot worse. And for every guy that leaves under a cloud there are many more that are happy to contribute and share.
You can't force people to be happy/behave. Best thing you can do is manage the drama as much as possible and contain the fallout.
One thing that is nice compared to other communities is spectrum people for the most part seem very tolerant and welcoming people. It's also very lively with lots of interactions. You look at other retro communities and they do not have such life or have what the hippies would term 'toxic' communities
You get isolated problems but for the most part speccy people are good eggs.

Still, I think people are making assumptions without knowing all the facts. But I don't know all the facts either, so I will continue to hold my tongue for now.
