Loading programs/games to ZXDB

Hello,

A beginner's question - If I have the MC Cassette with the program that hasn't been entered in the ZXDB yet, how do I proceed converting the Cassette sound into correct formats (TZX) and start uploading it's content? Is there a way to record and transcode the audio by using GNU/Linux with Audacity software or similar? Could you point me to some URL/thread covering this topic or please explain the procedure?

Thanks,
Jan

Thanks for the question.

The best way is to record the audio as you say and pop it on Dropbox or similar. Emulators such as Spectaculator allow you to load from an audio source which one of us can do for you.

You can record the audio with any general sound editor like the Audiacity that you mention. But you won't convert it to .tzx with Audiacity.

For converting your recording you will new a specialised tool.

There are a few available ones but the most popular one seems to be MakeTzx. And if you use it, you can't actually skip the stage with Audiacity as it will record and convert the sound for you at the same time.

See this link, it seems quite detailed:

Just an old mono tape deck from back in the day, which you probably already have, is fine, rather than spending out on.more stuff.

To be honest, I don't know how this 15$ Super usb cassette capture works. I think it can save in WAV format right on a flash memory that you plug into the device, without having to use the PC and Audacity. So the process could be as simple as passing every wav through the fuse-utils tool.

Edit:

I was wrong, this model needs Audacity. There is another model called Ezcap230 which saves in MP3 right into a thumb memory. This video compares both models:
Spoiler
Both look like a bit awful so probably you should stay away from them :)

hikoki - These walkmans might be worth trying out with audacity (will see about quality), unless I am still able to find an old analogue walkman.

Thanks.

It's up to you to try the gizmo. It doesn't look like durable :)

Useful advices to work with Audacity

PZX seems to be simpler than TZX so why don't try fred's WAV2PZX ?

Just a warning for those who might be interested to order the Walkman "Tape to iPod/mp3 CD USB cassette capture converter audio music player", I haven't received it yet after one month and delivery status says "confiscated at the border", I assume because of the iPod/mp3 licensing issues...? I ordered one from DXGATE.COM

I ordered one from DXGATE.COM
I checked their site. And if I may ask, what made you order your device from some company in Guinea in Africa? ;)
Personally I would have immediately a feeling that it may end badly.

My bad then, I thought it was a Chinese website. I actually placed the order on DHGATE.COM, not DXGATE.

Ok, that one letters actually moves us from Africa to China ;)

So I suppose it was genuinely sent and hold at the border, probably something tax related.

The package with the walkman has arrived now, after more than 1 month from the order.
