HELP WANTED: Magazine type-in page numbers!

Post by Einar Saukas »

Right now we have about 200 type-ins in the archive, where we know the magazine issue they were published, but not the page number:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/list?bu ... =1&order=1

Locating the correct page numbers is not an easy task, especially considering that almost all of them are in a foreign language... We need your help!

If you are able to locate any of them, please use the preservation tools to fix the page number, as follows:
  • From SC homepage, click on "HELP!"
  • Click on "LET'S TRY IT!"
  • Click on "Small changes for magazine references"
  • Select the program under "ZXDB existing title/entry"
  • Click on "Show all magazine references for the selected title/entry"
  • Fix the page number (where it currently indicates zero)
  • Click on "Generate SQL", then "Publish SQL"
Thank you!

I forgot to mention that submitted fixes won't appear online immediately. They will be included in the following ZXDB update (about a week later).

Therefore if you are willing to help, it's probably a good idea to mention it in this thread to avoid someone else doing exactly the same magazine.

EDIT: Or you can look here to see the magazine references that others have already submitted this week!

I've made a start with the entries from ORDI-5 magazine. I'll carry on with the others on the list from that publication.

Edit — I've finished these ones.

I did Fuochi nella notte but then I stopped because I wanted to see how the game is, so I lost the entire afternoon typing it in (OCR gave a lot of errors).

Graphik - Heim-Computer 1983/11 p 40 (40 in pdf)
Hinterhalt - Heim-Computer 1983/12 p 43 (47 in pdf)
Tischdecken - Happy-Computer 1984/07 p 57 (55 in pdf)

Der Sagenhafte Schatz des Drachen Mordor:
The listing appears to be on a large poster (inside the issue), so no page number. Also, there's no PDF available, just a bunch of scans. It's scans #17 and #18.
How should I go about this?

I can help with Microhobby type-ins.

I'm done with Micro 7's ones. Just five entries.

I'm guessing the entire magazine unfolds into a single poster, with a large picture on the front and program listings on the back. That's the reason it doesn't have page numbers...

Please mark it as starting at page 17. That's not exactly accurate, but it's the only page reference we have.

Hupschraubär Pilot - Happy-Computer 84/11 p 74
Manic Train - Computer Kontakt 85/03 p 29
Mensch ärgere Dich nicht - Happy-Computer 84/09 p 40

I see that @Neil Parsons already did Hunter, so that's it for the German part.

No idea.

I've found a full scan of Hobby-Computer 1983/11 in my download folder, it's not in your database.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11E_W1l ... sp=sharing

Is it ok to upload it or do we need permission from the one who did the scan?
There are 4 type-ins in it that are missing (the Hobby-Computer issue is not linked to any type-in so far):
- Lander
- Entenjagd
- Dame
- 3-D-Plot (utility)

Ops, this magazine was duplicated by mistake!

This is the correct link, including these type-ins:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/issue/1 ... Computer/1

EDIT: It seems Happy Computer was originally called "Hobby Computer" in the first issue only.

ok

I've found the issue number for 8x8 (utility) and created an update request, but the title is a bit unspecific. The listing doesn't give a name away but it should be something along 'Musterfüllung 8x8' or 'Füllmuster 8x8'.

Music Entertainer - Homecomputer 1984/12 p 35
Can't verify though as no PDF for that issue is available.

Loading screen from the TZX:

I've added a few more, this time from TILT magazine.

I noticed from the recent changes list that @sn3j has already done a couple, so I've only updated the others.

I did: Helicos, Hop Hop, Harbor 2090, Schtroumpfs, Billard, Roger Le Macon. :)

I did a few titles from Hebdogiciel mags but when I try to generate the request there's a popup "Original = Yes must be specified only once!". No idea what's causing this.

This problem seems to happen when the original publication was published in parts, spread across different magazine issues. I will ask @pavero to check the submission forms code. In the meantime, please submit it as "Original=No" (with a short comment) and I will adjust your submission accordingly.

Ok. The two entries of Textor point to wrong mag issues, it should be #154 and #155 for the 2nd part. I could only create an update request for the first entry, the second is not accessible from the menu.

Whenever the online form doesn't accept a correction, please write in "comments" whatever else needs to be corrected.

Every week I receive all contributions and review them to prepare the next ZXDB release. If any "manual" adjusts are needed, I will handle them at this time.
