BASIC compo on our Facebook page - join in, win cash!

Post by emook »

1st - will receive £50

2nd - will receive £20

It's been a few years since our game competition, so I think its time for another!

This time the theme is a >>>>>speed game>>>>>>!

What is a speed game?

This is a type of game that requires the player to quickly input movements to be successful. For instance think of a cycling game, the player has to tap left then right in time in order to move the pedals of the player to reach a fast enough momentum to beat a set time. The key is to have the player send input at the correct time to progress.

The scenario is totally up to you as long as the goal of the game is user input to meet a goal.

The closing date for your entry is 23:59:59 Oct 31st 2019GMT

***Your code must be 100% Sinclair BASIC no MC***

You can load graphics / UDGs in or POKE to memory.

The results will be based upon the group members votes with a deciding vote from the judges.

The winner receive £50! Woo!

2nd - will receive £20

Anyone can enter. So please, if you would like to enter PLEASE DO! No matter what your experience!

Good Luck!

Is this open to non-Facebook users? Can I submit a different way?

Also - is this competition for the ZX Spectrum? Or Next? The url seems to a website about the BASIC implementation on the Next (which I don't have yet), but the competition page makes no reference to this.

Standard Spectrum. The organiser is involved in lots of Spectrum-related projects but only has one website, so I expect you’ll see lots of topics posted there, not just things to do with this competition.

Incidentally the Next is fully back-compatible with 48K and 128K BASIC, so you could write a qualifying compo entry on that if you did have a machine - provided you didn’t use any Next-specific features.

The nextbuild project you mention is nothing to do with Sinclair BASIC either, btw. It’s a set of tools and libs for what’s often known as Boriel’s BASIC - an alternative language which compiles to Spectrum machine code. You can safely ignore all of that, although of course it’s cool in its own right.

Right, thank you. I was just doing something on the regular speccy - I've got a control mechanic that works - now I need to carry on with it, and see if I can make it actually fun to play!

I've finally finished my game to submit - but don't know how to... as I don't have a Facebook account.
Where shall I put it?!

As I'm not a Facebook user, I wondered what other people's entries were like for this competition, what won, etc. Was there are a download of them anywhere?
Thanks
