Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
Here's a commissioned screen I've just finished. Manic Miner. Rather than post the SP behind it, I'll post the link to the post on my FB page (it's a public page so if you don't have a FB account, you'll still be able to view it )

I've always felt the MM loader is like the Queen's knickers - out of bounds, but this is a great screen. That's pretty much how I visualise the Kong beast too.
I'd love to see the watercolour it's based on.

Great job!
It all looks quite scary like some horror game but funny at the same time. Like some really weird dream.
I'm not sure about the logo. Probably some comic style round a bit deformed letters would suit better the general style.

Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
To be honest, the logo nearly didn't go in as I almost forgot all about it having removed it from early work in progresses! I was intending on having the logo vertically on the left but was running out of space for the main picture (this can be clearly seen in a timeline video I did). As it was a commissioned screen, I had to match the original artwork as best I could. Fortunately, the recipient is absolutely overjoyed with my work. As I am too lol.
I don't know if videos can be uploaded here but hopefully you can see it in this link: https://www.facebook.com/AndyGreenPixel ... 03/?type=1

New stuff. As Andy seems busy with drawing, I'll do the job and post them

Firetrap has a cool artwork so it deserved a cool loading screen. Great!

Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
First time I've seen this Manic Miner one. It's a typically-great Andy conversion of the original watercolour but Miner Willy in said watercolour bothers me plenty. It's not how I imagine him at all. To be fair, I'm not sure *how* I imagine him but... it's not like that. But I think it's the platform that bothers me most: I don't think there was a single white platform in MM? I stand to be corrected, of course.

You're right, you'd think the Cold Store might have some but no. There's one to store away for the world's most obscure pub quiz.5MinuteRetro wrote: ↑Thu Mar 08, 2018 10:42 pm I don't think there was a single white platform in MM? I stand to be corrected, of course.
Does the same go for JSW? (No peeking!)
Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
He has quite a belly on this picture I've never imagined Miner Willy being fat.
Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
True, I've never pictured the character in reality, but if I did he wouldn't be plump.
I remember seeing a painting by Vidar Eriksen (I think) portraying a gaunt and ashen miner, which may be more accurate given the trials he's been through.
Does anyone know the picture I mean? I can't find it.
Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
While searching for Vidar Eriksen's I found this painting called Manic Miner:
I contacted the artist to see if it was based on the game but he said it was only partially inspired by it but not a direct reference.
Still I feel it captures the raw essense of Miner Willy's suffering.

I'm gonna jump over your heads, Fathafuxers! Something related with parkour epic fails. Maybe add bruises, lumps and a toothless mouth

JSW is so much bigger that I'd be amazed if it doesn't, so I'm betting yes...R-Tape wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 9:08 amYou're right, you'd think the Cold Store might have some but no. Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
A new one - how would Superfrog look on Spectrum, by maestro Andy Green:
Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
Nice. It just gets away with the thick black line, that's a neat way of having a black lined image mixed with a colourful background.
Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
Yes, we have a nice trick here, first the thick black line around the hero, and then another dithered "line".
Black line was required to avoid color clash but here it became an integral part of design, it actually fits the picture quite well.

Re: New loading screens by Andy Green
Thanks Ralf, for posting the screens. Really appreciate it! And thank you everyone for your continuous kind comments.
Here's something I don't normally post - abandoned screens:
With Superfrog, I played with a couple of ideas before the final screen. The first you see below, would've been based on the Commodore CD32 box art (also pictured). The frog in my pic looks like he's just done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson lol. The third image below; I thought about putting in the game level screen behind Superfrog but on a curved planet instead. I wasn't happy with it so gave up on that one as well.

I really like this one. The colors just seem to work great.
