Submissions wanted: Woot! ZXMAS Tape Magazine

This year's edition of Woot! is due to be released early December, though that can be extended a bit if needed.

So far we have 2 finished games and one in progress, with a hope of an AGD game off someone else. Here are a few teasers:

There's still a scary amount to do and submissions are thin on the ground this year, hope I can convince a few of you to dust off your game designer, assembler or BASIC compiler for a quick xmas game :-) Go on - you'll be surprised how invigorating it is!

I'm after:
  • Games, Minigames
  • Demos
  • Music, AY or Beeper
  • Art, SCREEN$
  • Games (including minigames and demos), but I'd like them to be exclusive to the magazine until after it's released.
  • Utilities
  • Puzzles, puzzle ideas - e.g. Speccy crossword clues.
  • Cartoons, or cartoon ideas that I can draw see last year's for examples.
  • Anything else I may not have thought of!
Last year's Woot! can be downloaded here.

Thank god for INK 4, xmas games would be f**ked on the Speccy otherwise!

Looks great, hope you finish it. I'm predictably going slower than expected so it could be a week or so extra.

Mr-Tape, when would be the (none-extended) cut off for submissions? If I have enough time I fancy creating something small with the Crap Games Designer.

That'd be cool Spud. Let's say the end of the first week in December.

(Ahem, you mean the Classic Games Designer )

Yes, INKS 4 and 2 are great for Christmas games, BRIGHT too if we're feeling a bit FLASH!

BTW, the above link for Woot Zero didn't work for me, this one did though https://t.co/TFwIbLfLca

If I came up with a few clues, would you be interested in running another cryptic quiz?

Oh yes please, as long as it doesn't stop your work on Balachor in Space.

If they're as hard as last time be sure to include the answers when you PM them...

I can probably just about squeeze it in between the all-night Balachor hackathons. :)

Hi,

I'm currently working on a small Christmas based puzzle game for this using z88dk. What's the best way to submit a submission to you?

Thanks,

Cheers for the PM. I'd also messaged you on the specnext forum too but you can ignore that now.

This is a very good idea, fitting so well with the Xmas spirit, which always was a Speccy time (I remember playing loads of spectrum games with my cousin in New years eve!).

Hehe that Soko XXX must be fun :D

Looking forward to seeing what will come up finally and thanks Dave for the so good idea (which was also really fun last year with some entertaining games -that I have to come back again some time-).

Okayy I should be able to start writing the magazine soon (I'm ****ed otherwise!) ready for a mid December release.

Just a last call for magazine content, if anyone has an idea for a short article, joke mockup*, mashup, cartoon, or even the loading screen could they let me know. Some of the articles are already decided so best to PM me as it may be already covered.

Big thanks to everyone that has a game in development for this.

Do I understand correctly that you are interested in Speccy screens being mockups of some existing games?

If so, I have some old work that I have never shown to anybody and could share it now.

I meant new mockups, e.g what would Game of Thrones look like if release today, but thinking again I'd be interested in any mockups (Giana Sisters, Mire Mare, whatever).

I'll send you a PM.

Email sent.

I'd really love to help more with your project but unfortunately real life gets in and my time is short recently :( And I'm also trying to finish a bit bigger game for this Spanish competition from another thread.

Don't suppose anyone wants to do a 'guess the game from the graphic' quiz for the mag?

It would need to be 12 or 16 tiles*, fairly easy to guess, and based around an interesting theme.

Post here (but not the tiles!) or drop me a pm if so.

I started to create something in the CGD, but I mistakenly used CGD 1.0. Is there a known bug that was poke fixed in that version for sprites that go missing once placed on the map? i.e, they don't appear at all!

R-Tape sorted my problem out. It was of the user variety, not a problem with the CGD. A bad workman, eh?

I've sent some PMs out but today is the last call if case anyone was submitting stuff.

Might release tonight, or could be Monday or Tuesday.

I've sent a link to you in a private message. Or at least I thought I had - it's in my "Outbox" but not in my "Sent items" so I'm not sure what's going on!

Got it, testing it now - it's great. The helpful in game messages are a bit too.... helpful!

The outbox thing is a 'feature' of phpBB forums, it's marked as outbox until the recipient reads it.

Thanks so much for the game. A couple more still to come.
