ZXAV - An Audio/Visual Sequencer

Post by evilpaul »

Hi all.. first post here from me :)

I recently released a program called ZXAV. It's an audio/visual sequencer for the ZX Spectrum, which means that you can create audio and visual sequences and then play them back. It's intended for jamming and live performance. It runs on a minimum of a 48 with an AY interface for audio - but it's easiest just to run it on a 128.

There's a trailer for it here:
https://vimeo.com/441426262

And you can download it from here:
http://atebit.org/prod.php?prodId=430

It started out as an exercise in size-coding, so the executable for the whole thing is crunched into just 4096 bytes

A really neat idea to combine audio and visual FX into a single sequencer. Love it!

Wow! Just played with this over a coffee and its impressive. Just built a really simple bassline and some drums and a drum fill. Really good fun and easy to use.

Very impresive. :)
This reminds me of the program "Light Show", from the first published ex-Yugoslavian Spectrum cassette Kontrabant:

When some music is played through the EAR or MIC connector, it would display a very nice visualization and sound analyzer.
I tried it on SpecEmu with one music WAV file and it works really well.

Why does the nick look so familiar? Did you do demos in the past or was it an emulator? I'm getting old...

Thanks for the replies :)

zxbruno: Yeah.. I've doing demoscene stuff for a while now. Mostly Speccy stuff. There's a pretty comprehensive list here: https://www.pouet.net/user.php?who=5650&show=credits. I've also been "sometimes active"' on WoS for a while. Hmmm.. maybe I should put something in the "Introduce yourself" thread?
