Knight Lore was a hell of a breakthrough, but I had more fun with other games. Kokotoni Wilf, Knight-Tyme (when I could eventually get a 48K version) and Krakout (lately, emulated) are high on the list, but for the two-player option and the editor back then, my vote has to go to Kikstart 2.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
Ok I was a big fan of the TV show so the game was an easy sell back in the day. Lol I even had the game book that came out.

I voted Kung-Fu, because, well, I love that game. It was so simple in conception but so effective with the big graphics and smooth animations. But Knight Lore is for sure the best of the bunch.

Precisely my view too. I fired up Kikstart 2 a few months ago and spent a whole night playing every course. Easily one of the greatest budget games ever made.Joefish wrote: ↑Mon May 14, 2018 12:39 pm Knight Lore was a hell of a breakthrough, but I had more fun with other games. These 3 stand out for me:
Knight Lore – ground breaking, causing many of our jaws to drop lower than our chuds were at the time.
Kokotoni Wilf – A bit naff but simple playable fun, the giant dinosaurs felt quite special and it had a great atmosphere, brimming with nostalgia. Spirit of the Speccy.
Knight Tyme – Combines a bit of both the above. Fun, classy and the sprite is a Speccy mascot.
I’m voting Koktoni Wilf, but I kind of hope Knight Lore wins...

This is difficult. I've only played Kokotoni Wilf and I didn't like it one little bit! I will have to abstain from this one
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
Has to be Knight Lore for me.
I had more difficulty thinking of what I'd rate in my second place (if there was a vote for it), and after a bit of deliberation I'd probably pick Kobyashi Naru. One of the few adventure games I managed to finish. Fairly short but a great budget game.

Tough one. Kwik Snax was great, but a bit derivative by the time it came out. Knightlore is horribly overrated. Krakout I enjoyed, until the ball eating faces appear and utterly ruin the game. And of the remaining, I think it has to be Kokotoni Wilf, it was a long way from perfect but I enjoyed it a lot back in the day.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
My nominations are: Karnov, Killed Until Dead, Knight Lore, Kokotoni Wilf, Kwah?

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
As I said before, I voted for Knight Lore, but I must reckon Kokotoni Wilf is an enjoyable game, my second choice.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
Knight Lore for me. There are more enjoyable games in that list (Kikstart 2 was a brilliant, under-rated, playable gem) but Knight Lore's sheer importance to videogame history, not just the Speccy's history, cannot be underestimated. I put it into the same category as Super Mario Bros, Mario 64, Ocarina, Half Life 2, The Last Of Us, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc - one of those releases that simply changes things forever by moving the goalposts, and makes you re-evaluate just what a videogame is capable of.

Knight Lore.
Actually for me it's yet another classic where I was a crap player and achieved nothing.
I never took into account changing into werewolf so it always happened to me in the worst moment when I needed to escape from the enemy
There is also a trick which you'll need to use often - stand on an object to get higher, then jump, then immediately press "pick up" to get back the object you were standing on. Maybe it's simple and obvious for some people but I never learnt it in the 80s.
But still I can see the greatness of Knight Lore. It was miles ahead of the competitors when it was released. It made your jaw drop to the floor when you saw it. It's a father to all isometric games - Diablo, Fallout, Baldur's Gate... choose actually any big isometric game.

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
As stated in the K Discussion thread previously, I've voted for Kokotoni Wilf. I completely understand how groundbreaking Knight Lore was, and I remember being in Software City in Wolverhampton just starting at the screen in awe at the graphics, but, it just wasn't for me. I desperately wanted to like the game, but, in the end, I just found it too frustrating and this wasn't helped by the fact that I was utter shoit at it

I liked Klax.
Every man should plant a tree, build a house, and write a ZX Spectrum game.

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
Kikstart 1 was on the *whispers* Commodore 64/128 and Atari 8-bit platforms, but sadly not on the Speccy. Still, by all accounts, it is number 2 that's the best, 1 didn't have the course editor.

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
Voted for Killed Until Dead because Knight Lore has been voted enough, and Karnov already has one vote.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
I think Knight Lore might get this one.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with K: vote
I can't believe Kokotoni Wilf came second. It's a long time since I played it, but I remember it being complete pants.

Voting is still ongoing, until about 12noon UK time - anyone can change their vote until then. Normally I start/finish at 10am, but last week I had some personal stuff to deal with...
