Lenslok titles

Post by lfaria »

I needed to find all the Lenslok (the plastic gizmo that was a nightmare to align properly) protected titles in the DB:
From the frontpage, I select "Lenslok" on the protection schema pulldown.
The search returns only one item: Macadam Bumper (ID 2957). A title that, AFAIK, doesn't use it... Why is it connected with Lenslok?

Then I fetched the list of titles Featuring Lenslok Protection (group_id 1012)
and I got 7 titles (correctly not including the above mentioned Macadam Bumper)
But by crossing that list with the ones supported by the Lenskey Lenslok emulator,
it seems that GAC (ID: 6391) and Moon Cresta (ID: 3263) are missing this "Features" item.

Lastly, I checked the Lenslok's wikipedia page and got an even larger list, including titles like:
Fighter Pilot / Digital Integration
Silicon Dreams / Rainbird / Level 9 Computing
The Advanced Music System / Firebird
Supercharge / Digital Precision

Some of these don't seem to have a Speccy release, but anybody knows if the ones that do (the first two) have Lenslok protection in any release?

The following versions use Lenslok:

* The Amstrad CPC version of GAC
* The Amstrad CPC version of Moon Cresta
* The Atari 8-bit version of Fighter Pilot

I haven't been able to find any evidence of Silicon Dreams having Lenslok in any version.

I seem to remember that helicopter sim Tomahawk used a lenslok as well.

Yes, that title is included in the list of titles Featuring Lenslok Protection (group_id 1012)

Only the original 48K release of Elite is protected; neither the Joystick Club re-release, nor the 128 later version are

I had a compilation of Level 9 games I think that definitely had Lenslok in them, if you wanted to save a game . Thats a bit hazy though.

Edit - Yes, it was Colossal Cave in the Jewels Of Darkness pack. The game starts as normal, and you can save freely, but type 'RESTORE' and you are confronted with the dread dots. Worse than the sodding axe-welding dwarf in the twisty maze.

It seems that the Supercharge I referred in the first post is the Supercharge Basic Compiler for the Sinclair QL.
This title is absent from SC's ZXDB.

Also, The Advanced Music System seems to be a C64 title.

So, my whole first post resumes to these 2 questions:
Why does Macadam Bumper show up from the front page "Lenslok" protection scheme search?
Why don't the 7 titles from group 1012 show up instead?

Every version I've seen of Silicon Dreams just asked you to type in a word from the manual.
