I had a few spare hours today so I thought I’d tackle Spec-a-Sketch as a type-in. (Thanks for sharing that as text file!) I was familiar enough with the (zmakebas?) codes that represent the block graphics so deciphering that wasn’t too onerous (but doing so on a +2A without the markings on the keys made it more of a challenge).

Among the more interesting transcription errors I made appears to have glitched “little” mode allowing you to iteratively re-run it in a sort of (but not really) Conway’s Etch-a-Life:

I have survived my FLQG ordeal!

This is a very accurate description of the game!

Some notes :
-The game instructions are very easy! You can google them by entering "PSSST walkthrough zx spectrum". You must find the correct spray to kill the bugs of each level

-Have you tried "Kill worm with blue can" ? (I thought this made sence in english)

-In the game features I mention :

Amazing introduction lasting more than 10 minutes on a real spectrum.

Have you tried loading the intro from a real tape on a real spectrum? It will last about 10minutes


-Have you found the cheat code?

The end of the game is important! In the next weeks you will need the items you recovered!

When I was younger my english were/was much better...
It seemed to me a bit odd to use "kill worm with blue spray can" and "kill worm with blue spray" didn't sound quite right. I could add a verb "spray" so I could do "spray worm with blue can" but it was lunch time and It was hungry...

I'll give it another go know I know what to do.

Yes you will miss the typing action packed adventure game. It is better than playing the old Pssst biography game!
Btw, the game implements an A.I. difficulty system : Eeach time you loose It add an extra move to the time counter - so the worst you are the more time you have! The manual clearly states that the game is "noob friendly"!

The graphics are very original and not copied from other games!

From a real tape?????? No.

Yes, you need to use real-life loading speeds! It is a multi-loading intro and most emulators "cheat" and miss all the loading fun! (Hint : You could set TAP loading speed to 100% before you re-review the intro of this amazing non-crap typing action game).

I spend much time trying to solve some graphics issues ( I will send a report to the engine author at somepoint).
I have rewritten the scripts many times (it uses a C-like syntax) and it was quite fun.
The final game contains less text that of the original idea to avoid some graphics overlapping issues.
Btw, I forgot to add to the "Features" section that this is a game full of Bugs!

Probably not. I tried to add enough mechanics to make it likely solvable, and I've gotten to level 5-6 many times during testing without being blocked. But it's random, so there's always a chance.

@Kweepa the graphical glitch: I was at the top of a screen, with a wall above me. when I jump at that location it drew 3 attributes of colour in a vertical pattern at the played location.

Kind of like when you accidentally write to the attribute location instead of the hires screen - as I often do when doing stuff in asm

I'm not sure if this game is barking mad, or I'm being rubbish*. I can open a door of the locker, but I can see what's in it, then the garden is destroyed and I'm teleported.

Nice! What it's lost in trigonometry it's gained in map size. The lady in waiting has been rescued and the 'Gareth Hood' series added to the DB queue. Looking forward to the rest of the franchise.

I'm not sure if this game is barking mad, or I'm being rubbish*. I can open a door of the locker, but I can see what's in it, then the garden is destroyed and I'm teleported.

*Actually it's probably both.

If the locker contains something, you will see it in the garden description when you open the correct door.
I implemented this as it was stated in the tutorial video. The properties of the locker object seemed a bit odd to me too but that was the "official" suggestion for a multiple drawer object.
When you teleport it means that you took too many turns to win this garden. Each time you teleport you get one more extra turn. The garden is not destroyed. It stays at the state you left it when you lost. You return to the garden with North , up,up,...

If you know what you're doing the turns are enough from the start!

In theory you do exactly what you do in the "old" PSSST game. Except for the door opening! I had to do that because you would always see all the spray cans in the garden from the start.
