Carlos Sainz World Rally Championship
Just found out about this from the new issue of Retro Gamer:
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/8 ... rlos_Sainz
It's actually the predecessor of the quite well-known and successful World Rally coin-op, which spawned a whole genre in the 90s.
It's an impressive piece of work that ought to be better known, but is also a bit tricky to play because it's all in Spanish. Did it ever get a translation/UK release?

It's technically impressive, but with such a short view ahead you have to be psychic to be able to stay on the course!

Same is true of the arcade games

Which reminds me of the massive chuckle I had when seeing a van with a massive sticker on the back "No, Mikey, No!"

This is definitely, one of the best Spectrum games ever. Got me so hooked about 17 years ago until I completed it, playing it every evening for 2 weeks (it has passwords, so that is another point in favor). At the beginning it may seem very complicated to master, but when you get the hold of the controls, it is insanely addictive. Technically also very good.

I loved the arcade games, didn't realise this genre had started on the Speccy.

I remember this game in the arcades. Many kids were obsessed by it. It reminded me of Super Sprint but more difficult. You had to spend much money to memorize the track since you could see only a few meters ahead. I prefered playing Super/Championship sprint home.
Spectrum saved me a lot of money

I don’t remember having this but I do remember playing it. Was there a demo on a covertape? Or maybe a mate had it.
I do recall some rather juicy graphics.

This is really good though, but super tough.
I got stuck in a tree.
I was kind of hoping that the portrait of Mr. Sainz would react to my driving, maybe get progressively more injured like the Doom guy.
Shoutout to co-driver Luis Moya, who gets mentioned on the classification screen, but I bet never saw a single peseta from this.
( I had no idea that F1 Carlos Sainz had a famous Rally Carlos Sainz as a dad. )
