Using A.I to recreate ZX Spectrum loading screens.

Y'know, other stuff, Sinclair related.

Not a loading screen. But my AI version of the ZX Spectrum classic "Top heavy rocky floating sci-fi world, bathed in orange haze."

I recreated that image when I was 10 by dipping a sponge into orange and the black paint, and dabbing it onto paper. I was right proud of myself but the teacher had no idea what I'd just done. I took the Spectrum user manual into school the next day to prove to here I wasn't making it up.

box art:

Image

"egg wearing bandana and boxing gloves facing the camera walking the plank with sharks circling below and pirate with sword and dagger looks on from behind"

Not quite there, but near enough I suppose

Loading screen:
Image

"egg with red boxing gloves washed up in the surf with a shocked expression on his face at night with an island looming behind menacingly"

I really want to enjoy this thread but I still feel so uneasy about this. I've had a year to come to terms with this but my brain still struggles to accept that computers can now almost instantly generate beautiful artwork which looks like someone spent weeks painting. This is the first time in my life that technology has truly seemed like magic to me. Also, how come they're all square instead of 4:3?

I tried to challenge the AI with a difficult one and the result is... weird:

"Spectrum computing forums' most scored game by its users"

The images are square because of the maths used to generate them, lots of matrix multiplications.

To misquote Douglas Adams, you readily accept technology when you’re born and everything up to age 30 is progress. After that, it’s just witchcraft!

I think the age is 40 now rather than 30 and whilst this stuff amazes me, it doesn’t surprise me that we’ve come this far.

If kids are using ChatGPT to answer school questions, I’m using it to write them!

Its not easy to place the inscription, because it regularly mixes up the letters.
I tried to make a picture with "TURBO ESPRIT" written above, but most often I get "TURBO ESPIRT" or some letters duplicated.
Dan Dare attempt is better, but still not perfect.
Now I have to wait 45 minutes for each picture, because I ran out of fast ones. ;)

I made a description as accurate as possible and this is the result...

"Loading screen of The Way of the Exploding Fist, a ZX Spectrum published by Melbourne House in 1985, considered one of the best karate games for the ZX Spectrum. The loading screen has the usual ZX Spectrum 8-bit graphics and shows a fighter's face staring at the viewer, opened mouth, hitting a little red wooden table with chinese letters and in the background, over a yellow land, there's the typical chinese temple on a little blue hill, all under a cyan sky"

say you have aprogram that makes a 100% random screen
how big is the change a donald duck face will be visible in that total randome screen
there are 2^(256*192) possible random B/W screens and 2^((256*192)+(768*8))+1 Colour screens
one of them IS donald duck becouse its already made, YET
that picture did already exsist INBETWEEN THOSE 2^((256*192)+(768*8))+1 amount off screens

aiaiai said the computer

https://duckduckgo.com/?t=lm&q=2%5E((256*192)%2B(768*8))&ia=calculator

PRINT^(256*192)
6: Number too big, 0:1
the answer is a number that byitself need 16k in digits the write it down
https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=+2 ... 68*8%29%29
boring stuff
thats even to much feeding for that AI to check that amount off screen$ for any donald duck.
