Lots of competently coded games here:
1. Target; This was also a hard choice between the sequel or the original. They are both good but I wanted to leave space for his other games.
2. Batman. Just a little better than Robocop. Also probably because I played this one first.
3. Arkanoid. Mostly because this one the ball is more visible than the sequel.
Too many games close to each other. So this was a hard choice.
Anyway, Wec Le Mans was a good conversion too. It's unfortunate that the original arcade game wasn't that interesting.

Jeez what a great list. It hurts to miss Renegade out.

Re: Devfinitive Edition (Mike Lamb): vote
1) Target Renegade. The absolute pinnacle of marauding beat em' up games on the Speccy. It filled the gap that the really disappointing Double Dragon conversion failed to do. It's by a small margin just about superior to the predecessor...
2) Renegade. Far far better than the arcade version! It has the wallop, it has the crunch, it really does demand you totally deck your opponents. Doesn't take two players and just doesn't quite have the variance of the sequel, but certainly a truly fine effort and way above expectations.
3) WEC Le Mans. I don't know if anyone has done the scientific calculations or how it could even be measured, but I've always declared this to be the "fastest" car racing game on the Spectrum. It just feels like it is. A pleasure to play, every time, even though I'm pretty poor at it!

Ooph, what a list and so hard to pick only three! Both WEC Le Mans and Arkanoid Revenge of Doh are favourites too.

1. WEC Le Mans
2. Steve Davis Snooker (based on how much I played it)
3= Arkanoid
3= Arkanoid II
The Arkanoids share a place as the 2nd plays better, but the backgrounds should have had an off switch!

Little shout-out to Pool as being the second game, after Jetpac, that I loaded into my Speccy.

Was that the 48K version or the 128K version?
Re: Devfinitive Edition (Mike Lamb): vote
1. Robocop
2. Batman
3. Renegade
With both Arkanoids being a very close follow up. Honestly though, there are so many great options here that it's hard to decide.

Pfft, can't accept this as you're squeezing a fourth entry into an ambiguous placing!
But yeah, you make a good point. Arkanoid II probably would be the better of the two if you could switch off those irritating backgrounds.

Ah, bless Kieran's adaptation. I hear it's in 4K resolution with a High Dynamic Range colour palette, 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound and the visual effects makes Game Of Thrones look like Ceefax.

1. Renegade. By a MILE. It's so much better than Target Renegade.
2. Batman The Movie.
3. Robocop.
Mike Lamb was a genius of the Speccy era but these days Renegade is the only game of his that I'm interested in firing up on the regular these days.
As I said on the discussion thread about this, his input on Combat School was the instructor fight (terrible) and the absolutely gash final mission (worst mission of any game ever). Or at least that's what I read somewhere once.

3. Target Renegade
Mike Lamb was a wizard. His games were very smooth and playable. And Renegade after 35 years still remains the best beatemup for Spectrum.
The worst of them is Top Gun. I tried it several times, played maybe for 3 minutes and it was "meh" for me. Definitely something went wrong there.

Once, it was Steve Davis' break and he potted the black.
That's how I beat Steve Davis at pool, one time, when I was a kid.
True story.
