I'm not 100% sure but it seems to be Russian language only at the moment, am I right?

Actually I played it for a moment and can say that it's a very nice, solid Dizzy game. Would be great if everybody could enjoy it here too.

Do you know how to open the accompanying .txt file as regular Cyrillic?

Code: Select all

Dizzy and the Mystical letter
Äèççè è òàèíñòâåííîå ïèñüìî
Also - I'm struggling to find any info on this Dizzy scripting engine, do you know anything about it? It's not a mod is it?

Questions!

If your text editor doesn’t allow you to choose text encodings, change the file extension to .html, open it in a web browser, and play around with encodings there. It’s probably Windows-1251.

And now the review. Just completed the game. Not too long, but very addictive... :)

Some info after reading the Russian thread:

- it's currently in Russian only but English version is promised to appear in the future
- some bugs are currently present too (like respawning in weird locations or going through walls), the author promises to deal with them
- it's not a mod, many graphics are obviously borrowed but the engine is original code, developed through last year
- the author wants to release the engine as an editor so everybody could do Dizzy games

This engine is not related to the engine used in Crystal Kingdom Dizzy 2017 ( https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=30381 )
It's an independent project. Actually it made a bit of turmoil at the Russian forum - why do a second engine if there's one already available, some copyright issues were also raised. Personally I respect everyone involved and hope they'll come to agreement and friendship :)

I don’t know. It feels . . . sluggish. Playing it on the 128K machine, I see it switches rapidly between mostly contended memory banks. Maybe it was only tested on Soviet clones, which don’t have memory contention.
