ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
I'm looking for recommendations for more ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels.
Here are a few channels I regularly keep track of.
Obviously, I've watched all of the Spectrum Show episodes.
https://www.youtube.com/@BuckingTheTrend2008/playlists
I've also watched everything Lee has released on his More Fun Making It channels.
https://www.youtube.com/@MoreFunMakingIt/videos
and
https://www.youtube.com/@morefunmakingit2/videos
Happy Little Diodes keeps me ...um, happy.
https://www.youtube.com/@HappyLittleDiodes/videos
Madi, Ms. Mad Lemon releases fairly regular ZX Spectrum content.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... -Fju93Dh_l
Then there's Rose Tinted Spectrum...
https://www.youtube.com/@RoseTintedSpectrum/videos
...and a comparitively new channel, Retro Computing Reboot.
https://www.youtube.com/@RetroComputingReboot/videos
Before I'll click the subscribe button, I first have to "click" with the presenter. I find all of the above easy to watch but are there more Speccy-centric channels with regular output I may be missing out on, due to YouTube's shabby algorithms?

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
There are retro channels on tiktok that has parts for ZX Spectrum (eg this : https://www.tiktok.com/@retrogamesboss/ ... 6169644827 ).
My personal ZX youtube channel that I post peeks of spectrum games is this :
I originally made this youtube channel to support some Crap Game Competition game ideas.

Spoiler
http://www.youtube.com/@ZX-Channel. These videos are also in my tiktok channel.
I upload there some videos of just trying spectrum games. The sound is usually (less than) medium quality because I make these videos in old PCs.
Don't expect anything of high quality since I don't have time for editing -or anything more that recording and playing a game .

Nick Jenkin does regular uploads, and covers the ZX Spectrum among many others. Nice and relaxed chat and looking at games.

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
Hi
El Spectrumero Javi Ortiz is by far the best ZX Spectrum focused YouTube Channel in Spanish with around 8.000 subscribers so far. After chronicling the main game genres, authors, companies during his early years, now Javi Ortiz is mainly devoted to the ZX Spectrum homebrew community, so he premieres new releases of the most notable Spanish and Latin American homebrew developers and interview them very often: Roolandoo, Hicks, Ariel Endaraues, Pat Morita Team, Retroworks, Ariel Ruiz, Furillo Productions, Mananuk and dozens more have premiered their games on this key Spanish YouTube channel that encourage developers and helps to make a more cohesive homebrew scene in Spain. Javi Ortiz is one of the most committed persons I know with the ZX Spectrum homebrew games.
Highly recommended channel with more than 2K videos uploaded so far. https://www.youtube.com/@ElSpectrumeroJaviOrtiz

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
Nice collection of channels!
Not sure I can suggest anything, but there's this one:
https://www.youtube.com/@Re-Tech/videos
And of course Pete Prodge's excellent channel:
https://www.youtube.com/@ReheatedPixels
The "8-Bit Guy" makes consistently great videos and he's done at least a couple of Speccy ones:
Finally, nothing at all to do with retro computing but IMHO the best YouTube channel is Captain Disillusion.

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
My JSW Central YouTube channel is devoted exclusively (at this time, at least) to high-quality walkthroughs of Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy games for the ZX Spectrum. It's at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvQBE5 ... RHis-XLD7A or at https://www.youtube.com/@jswcentral to use the YouTube handle address. I do my best to upload a new video every week, more or less. The channel was created as a complement to my JSW Central website (but now has a life of its own, I would say ).

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
I'm sure we're all familiar with "Octavius King", a girl who loves retro and has done loads of Speccy videos:
I'm sure we're also all familiar with "Kim Justice" who makes a lot of documentary-style Speccy videos:
There's also the Retro-B8 channel which reviews a lot of Spectrum games:
Here's a documentary about Ocean and Imagine:
Finally, not Spectrum-related, but I've really enjoyed watching a few Classic Game Postmortems where designers of classic games (eg arcade games) talk through the design process.

There's mine: https://www.youtube.com/@ReheatedPixels
Although it's usually a broad 'all formats' look at retrogaming, the ZX Spectrum gets a look in on all my reviews and features.

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
Jim Blimey (don't know if that's his real name) sometimes does livestreams on Saturday nights using his "random game picker thingy". These happen on twitch and are uploaded to YouTube afterwards.

Sometimes he livestreams things that aren't Spectrum related though - blimey!

Yep, I have watched it sometimes, when it's Speccy related, and that random gaming is very funny.textvoyage wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 4:48 pm Jim Blimey (don't know if that's his real name) sometimes does livestreams on Saturday nights using his "random game picker thingy". Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels
Can't believe we've been listing Spectrum-related channels and overlooked our very own Dean @Swainy
His Retro Asylum has tons of quality content, big-name podcast interviews and videos covering multiple retro machines (especially arcade) with plenty of videos on the Spectrum and Spectrum Next:
Oh and check out the photos of his hardware collection!
