Longest wait between Speccy sequels?
Reading up on news reports about GTA6 and how the 2025 release date means it'll be twelve years since GTA5 (debuting two console generations ago), it's made me wonder...
What's the longest timespan between two ZX Spectrum games as part of a series?

There was a 6 year gap between Football Manager and Football Manager 2. Probably because the original was still selling loads of copies years after it's release.
And let's not forget we're still waiting for a sequel to Target Renegade.

Re: Longest wait between Speccy sequels?
Not quite as long but 5 years between Chaos (1985) and Lords of Chaos (1990)
Also 6 years between Full Throttle (1984) and Full Throttle 2 (1990)
And another 6 years between Popeye (1985) and Popeye 2 (1991)
However, I think the winner surely has to be Bugaboo The Flea (1983) and Poogaboo (1991) at 7 years (both written by the same guy, unlike Full Throttle 2 which seems very tenuous as a sequel)
Any other games from 1982 or 1983 with a sequel in the 90s?

Might have another one (need to check on the months between them!)
Bullseye (1986) and Bully’s Sporting Darts (1993) : 7 years

Lol, I just remembered another one, although I’m not sure if it counts…
One Man and His Droid (1985) and One Man and His Droid 2 (2001) which is 16 years and easily beats GTA!!!

Ooh! Going on the adventure-based Dizzy series, that'd be 28 years!
Crystal Kingdom Dizzy (the 7th in that lineage) came out in 1992. The 8th game, Wonderful Dizzy came out in 2020!
(And I've just realised that none of the purely arcade-style games were put out between those two either, so yeah... 28 years!)

At Crash Live, Steve Turner said he might possibly restart development on the third game in the Avalon series. That'll be a 39-year gap (or more?) if it happens.

Re: Longest wait between Speccy sequels?
There was a 29 year gap between John Wilson's Behind Closed Doors 3 and his Behind Closed Doors 7 on the Spectrum.
(Although someone else wrote a sequel in 1994 and BCD 5 and BCD 6 were Twine games in 2011/12.)
I guess John did sequels to 1989's From Out of the Dark Night Sky in 2019 and 2020. And there was 30 years between his Bulbo games.
Homegrown text adventure sequels aren't quite in the league/spirit of the original post. They're pretty much two a penny, with so many people returning over 20 years later. Even I have managed a gap of 27 years between games in my own series.

Personally speaking, Acolyte (although never commercially released (possibly a good thing)), 1989. Acolyte 2, 2022
So that's 33 years!!

I'm still waiting for The Eye of the Moon, the third Lords of Midnight game. It was due in 1985.

That won't be done since he passed away quite a while ago now.
He was working on a game with the person who did the iPad version of the midnight games when he died, and that was abandoned afterwards.

And we've a winner
Re: Longest wait between Speccy sequels?
In the crap category I will submit Blind Flight Simulator (2009 - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... _Simulator ) . Which was part 1 of a trilogy.
The third part was Top Gun 2 - MaveRick Dangerous (2022 - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... _Dangerous ).

Spoiler
Also, this is one of the few trilogies -maybe the only one - that each part is better than the previous... Pt1 was written in Basic, Pt 2 was made with Quill and pt 3 with adventuron/DAAD.

I own both. Can't get the latter to run on a Speccy, though!
