After I had exposed my ears to the music in The Prodigy, my mum had to take me to the hospital :santa

I don't think the clock would change the sound, only the entonation and that's corrected in the code.

It's probably the audio output circuitry that uses different filters and amplifiers.

How about we confuse people further with this one?
This isn't the beeper.

Edit: you did it, confusion has started.

It is. See AY and beeper (and even better SAA1099) versions at https://zxart.ee/eng/search/action:perf ... e:Sanxion/

I don't want to forget about more recent games, 'homebrew' included. There are some excellent soundtracks.

Here are a few examples:

COMPLICA DX by Yerzmyey. It's amazing!

Castlevania Spectral Interlude Title Theme by Vladimir Tugay

Sword of Ianna by Alberto J. González (McAlby)

Delta's Shadoww - Stage 1 by n1k-o (Oleg Nikitin)

Roust by David Saphier/Emook

.. and many more :)

Batman The Movie has a great soundtrack, although I'd put the Batwing level as my favourite of all:

Me too! I still hum it 30 years later.

Nobody ever mentions Milk Race (1987) in this list. I'm gonna say it's the best ever. It's really gets going at 0:50.

Although was this composed by sampling from some other system? I mean this form has that feel. Do we say that this type of game music is not as valued as something composed on the Spectrum directly whether beeper or AY?

I'd agree that best game sounds must be in Starquake.

Hi

One of Dave Rogers' epic tunes for Raf Cecco's games.

The Dave Rogers' Marauder title theme maybe suits better on a sword and sorcery kind of game.

The amazing Marauder tense in-game tune by Dave Rogers' on the Spectrum...

With (no) permission from The Sisters Of Mercy's "Afterhours", but...

Marauder was a C64 original, so we have to blame Barry Leitch, who also "took inspiration" from John Carpenter's Assault On Precinct 13's main theme on the longer tune for the bread bin.

Overlander by an uncredited composer is simply astonishing and the game plays great too as a rendition to the Mad Max movie universe!

Astro Marine Corps (A.M.C) by José Antonio Martín Tello is one of the greatest Spanish AY soundtracks for one of the greatest Spanish games.

Great tunes from great homebrew games.

Fire & Ice

Nice little tune

Redshift

The music and sound fx by Richard Armijo for the best Speccy 'shmup' in the last 30 years are just spot on and suit the game action perfectly.

Gluf

Absolutely infectious in-game tunes by Oleg Nikitin.

This is just a sample. There are great AY soundtracks for amazing homebrew games.
