The best classic Speccy game beginning with Q: discussion

Post by PeteProdge »

It is going to be slim pickings here for the letter Q, unsurprisingly. I think if I listed every Spectrum game beginning with Q, it would only be marginally longer than the previous voting selections for some of the most common letters.

Anyways, I'm putting forward...

Q10 Tankbuster by Zeppelin
Qarx by Your Sinclair
Quartet by Activision
Quasar by MicroHobby
Quazatron by Hewson
Question Of Scruples by Leisure Genius
Question Of Sport, A by Elite
Quick Draw McGraw by Hi-Tec
Quondam by Ocean

What about you?

Quest Adventure by Hewson
Quest for the Holy Grail by Mastertronic
Quill, The by Gilsoft (I know this is specifically for "games" so maybe not. It was a hugely important release in the Speccies history though).

I don't remember playing any other game than Quazatron or Quartet, two good games, by the way... I'll leave my vote to head or tails to decide!

And the winner is Quazatron. I'd just do the 'R' poll, really.

Quazatron without a doubt. Short easy poll this one.

Just had another thought. By the time this is all done, if you took the top 3 or 4 games from each letter and compiled a top 100 (some may have had ties in second or third place making the numbers come right), i'm sure with some jiggling you could end up with 100 games.

Then you have a top 100 classic era gameslist as voted for by the "Spectrum Computing Forums Members".

Make a nice article somewhere.

Yup, this one's Quazatron, barely worth a poll.

Yeah, it’s pretty neat, actually.

But do any of these come near the majesty of Quazatron? Nope. Next letter please.

Well thanks a lot folks!!! I hadn't played Quazatron since 1986 so I just fired it up and wasted 45 minutes of my life  . I forgot what a brilliant game it was and I still love that grapple mini game.

Sounds like 45 minutes well spent to me.

Rock hard though. I played it a lot as a kid and I don't think I ever made it past level 3!

Quetzalcoatl - it had a nice bit of box art and a cool name..? Honestly I thought it was an adventure game, not a 3D maze. Still, at least they coloured it in.

I bought Quartet as I liked the idea of Gauntlet done as a run-and-gun game. But on the Speccy it was done with far too much glaring colour in the background and none on the sprites. Without another player it got dull quite quickly. With another player it still got dull.
The only 8-bit run-and-gun game I've ever really enjoyed was Probotector on the GameBoy. There's something about the screen ratio that makes it far more playable than Gryzor or anything else from the Contra series. That's not to put down Midnight Resistance, but I had that on the ST in proper hi-res colour.

No, but Quazatron, obviously.
