ZXBaremulator 3.3

Post by zx81 »

Hi all,

A new ZXBaremulator version has been released to correct some bugs on Z80 core emulation.

The emulator can be downloaded from his project webpage: http://zxmini.speccy.org

My two cents...

@zx81

It's excellent news that you have returned to the project. I'm sure @Pegaz will be pleased too.

To reiterate what I said earlier:
So glad this has been update after a long while. I've been following this project on and off too.
My only critique is still the lack of Pi 4 or 400 support. Otherwise this is a really solid project.

I have a question about tape compatibility:
Can I load anything through audio via a mic jack or something? I have a USB external audio card and a tape player.

Thanks for answering anyway. I do also wanna ask if you could add a way to save snapshots in the near future (i.e. *.z80 or *.sna)...?

Yes, I'm thinking about the implementation, but I can't say when I have enough time to code the feature.

@zx81 I think its going to be a pain in the ass to implement that for you as this would have been in it by now.
But it would make it amazing emulator.

good luck!!

Thank you for all the hard work and I appreciate the time you have spent to make this work as well as it does.

How difficult would it be to add Kempston joystick support through the GPIO?
It looks like there are enough pins free, just not sure if they are the correct type

Most GPIO pins are reserved for real keyboard supoort and keyboard mode change (14 pins in all). Kempston joystick needs 5 GPIO pins, no more 2 pins free, I guess.

Thanks & best regards

You could use a cheap Arduino clone to emulate a USB Xbox360 controller, and wire your joystick to that, then plug it in to a USB port on the Pi.

I use this type in my arcade stick:

I've not tried on ZX BareEmulator, but it works with anything else that expects an XInput device.
I'm in the middle of moving so everything is boxed up so can't try.

I rewrote the code for my arcade stick to provide programmable autofire and auto-waggle, utilising extra buttons.

I see there is also a more fully-featured gamepad emulator for Pi Pico, if you have one of them knocking about - https://github.com/OpenStickCommunity/GP2040-CE
