Crash Annual 2019

Post by Dark »

I’ve had a look, and unless I’ve missed it, there doesn’t seem to be a post about the kickstarter for the 2019 Crash annual. The magazine was a big part of my Spectrum days, I got a subscription for my birthday which had Renegade as the free gift, definitely a good choice – don’t remember what the other options were.

I got last years annual and enjoyed it, quite a few interesting articles of what it took to put the magazine together, and stories from the glory days of the Spectrum. I probably didn’t get as much out of it as I did the magazine, as then I’d be excited by all the reviews of new games and deciding what it was I wanted to get. But still think the annual was very worthwhile, so have pledged again for the next one.

Me too, and its screaming through stretch goals now...
Enjoyed the issue 99 2017 one, have pledged on this issue 100 very special 2018 one too. Cannot wait for it.
I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...

Yep, this is definitely one to back if you were a fan of Crash. I got last year's effort and loved it, and have read through it a couple of times now. I'm also getting the 2019 annual (albeit via my wife, as it'll be an Xmas day gift). Chris Wilkins really does an excellent job of this stuff, and if you're interested in what was in the 2018 book then feel free to check out the little video at my 5-Minute Retro YouTube channel.

I've also backed the ZZap! 64 annual, at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/47 ... xt-chapter. I wasn't such a fan of the C64 but I love Chris's books, and find all the behind-the-scenes features really interesting.

Still, I won't deny that I worry the novelty of these revived brands will soon wear off. I mean, if there's a 2020 Crash annual I'd probably still buy it but the law of diminishing returns feels like it's kicking in. I'm really more interested in Chris's Fusion Mag (https://fusiongamemag.com) but I stupidly missed out on issue one, which has now sold out. Anyone seen/read it, and have any views?

Last year's Crash annual was really impressive, so I'm likely to back this one. I thought the game reviews were brilliant - more than a perfunctory 'nice graphics, good gameplay etc', Joefish's especially, hope he's on the team again.

I agree there's a chance of this, it may even apply more broadly to the retro spike we're currently going through. If they can maintain the quality there is still some chance of the annual becoming an, err, annual retro institution.

If they're planning to release in December this year, does that mean that most of the work has already been done? Surely it would be an impossible deadline otherwise.
