MIA: Russian game Wall
I know a lot of MIA stuff appeared recently so I won't be adding much more till next update. Just one game
Actually it's better quality than most of stuff I found recently. Fluent, with AY music. It's called "Stena" in Russian which translates to "Wall" and is a Breakout/Arcanoid clone when you control some beam instead of ball. Multiple beams and different bonuses are also very common
Name:Wall
Russian name: Stena
Year: 1992
Publisher: THD https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... l_id=14222
Authors:
Aleksandr Belousov https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... bel_id=598
Denis Filipov (in database as D.I Filipov) https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... el_id=3046
Andrey Tarasov

Re: MIA: Russian game Wall
It is Pulsoids, released in 1988 by Mastertronic, translated to russian
Re: MIA: Russian game Wall
Oh well, thanks
So the decision belongs now to admins, as before. Should we add it as mod or skip it ???
I believe it classifies as important/quality mod - loading screen, translation, some graphics retouched but I'll certainly accept other decision.

I agree. There's a lot of work here that should be preserved. It's in the spreadsheet as a MOD ready for the next update (unless Einar disagrees).

Re: MIA: Russian game Wall
Weren't illegal translations/mods unsuitable to be listed in the database? E.g. like pirated and translated games published with Italian tape magazines (Load 'n' run, Special Program, Special Playgames, Tutto Spectrum etc.).
Re: MIA: Russian game Wall
I’m not the curator, and I suspect that Einar will pop along and correct me as usual , but I think there should be a place for MODs like this. IMO we shouldn’t focus a lot of effort into getting absolutely every MOD into the DB, but we shouldn’t put effort into excluding/removing it.Alessandro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 11:45 am Weren't illegal translations/mods unsuitable to be listed in the database? Just my 2 cents: if the game is freeware (like Pulsoids), I see no problem in staying in the DB...

Also it's not lost, it was well preserved on Virtual TR-DOS (https://vtrd.in). Look here for Стена: https://vtrd.in/games.php?t=full_ver Many Russian games (or translations or mods) are here.
But thanks anyway, Ralf, it really should be on ZXDB!

Generally yes. That was the rule on old WOS when still Martijn ran it.Weren't illegal translations/mods unsuitable to be listed in the database? E.g. like pirated and translated games published with Italian tape magazines (Load 'n' run, Special Program, Special Playgames, Tutto Spectrum etc.).
There were some exceptions like Harry Price's games as they were considered "belonging to history"
And some good mods were actually added too, check for example for a Russian mod for Barbarian or Elite.
Here it is a different website if anyone didn't notice so we may have different rules, even if unspoken.
I guess the rule here is - does the mod possess enough "added value" so it is worthy to be stored here in ZXDB.

Re: MIA: Russian game Wall
Excuse me Andre, but I don't see pulsoids being listed as freeware in its database entry.Andre Leao wrote: ↑Fri Nov 09, 2018 3:28 pm Just my 2 cents: if the game is freeware (like Pulsoids), I see no problem in staying in the DB...
On the other hand, I guess Strela could be included in the archive as a "mod" if it wasn't made for pirating purposes (as it's the case with La città fantasma instead), with the indication of the original title.
