ZX-Ed

Post by Einar Saukas » Fri Dec 07, 2018 4:01 pm

I have just implemented a new ZXDB database editor called ZX-Ed:

https://github.com/zxdb/ZX-Ed/

It's intended to improve the productivity of the ZXDB team when making fixes and adding new content to ZXDB. In practice, this tool should be used only by R-Tape and myself to prepare new ZXDB releases. Even so, I'm making it available as open source, like ZXDB itself.

I'm still going to make lots of small adjusts in presentation, but it's fairly usable already.

Have fun!

... For anyone not wishing to make use of ZX-Ed, repeatedly slapping R-Tape across the face with a wet fish has been shown to produce similar effects. ;)

In case anyone is curious to know how ZX-Ed works, I updated the documentation with a brief explanation and a few screenshots:

If I understand correctly via ZX-ED is possible to modify each table of ZXDB separately.

It would be also great to have one special page for adding new titles with structure like this:
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/edit/

On this page you would define all common items - ENTRY ID, TITLE, YEAR, IDIOM, GENRE, RELEASES, PUBLISHER, AUTORS, ETC.

ZX-ED would add new Autors, Publishers automatically and generate SQL with all changes across all influenced tables.

It would speed up the process of adding new titles significantly.

Both these options are already provided by ZX-Ed!

Great!

BTW, I don't know if there are some freehosting servers with JAVA&TOMCAT support, but don't you think about online version of ZX-ED (without any local installation)?

Can anyone recommend a good free hosting service that provides Java, Tomcat, and MySQL/MariaDB? I'm familiar with quite a few, but none that's worth it...

The free ones do sadly tend to be very, very restricted. I suppose they want you to upgrade!

Have you considered Amazon Web Services? I believe they have a free usage tier.
