Licence information

Licence information
The database contains a lot of information labelled "licence information". However, most of the time the information seems not to describe a licence at all. Typically the relationship is that of an unauthorised clone.
For example, Beaky and the Egg Snatchers is listed as a licensed version of Joust, which it obviously is not. Kong is listed as a licensed version of Donkey Kong, which it isn't. Etc.
There are some cases where the information does describe a licence, such as Donkey Kong itself. But such titles are mixed in with the unauthorised clones.
There are multiple ways to correct this. The licence information could be deleted for unauthorised clones, but this would involve a lot of work and lose a lot of valuable information. The information could be divided between unauthorised and licensed copies, but again this involves trawling through the database and correcting it.
The best solution, I think, is to rename the information to indicate that the game is a derivative and leave it unspecified whether it is authorised. (If needed an authorised/unauthorised flag could be added later.)
What do other people think?

Re: Licence information
On WOS there are two different columns, one "Tie-in licence", related to official conversions, and "Inspired by" more related to clones or non-official conversions, but looking at the tables on the ZXDB, I'm not sure if the database has something similar to "Inspired by".
Re: Licence information
Hi,
Is that what you would like? If so I will tidy it up some more. As StooB says there is a 'In Inspired' flag:
'1' indicates yes, but I can change the text to something more meaningful.

Re: Licence information
I think modifying the section name will look better. Kinda like:
instead of LICENCE INFORMATION.
Code: Select all
if ($was_inspired == '0')
echo 'TIE-IN LICENCE';
else
echo 'INSPIRED BY';

I'm just hoping that no title includes more than one licence row, otherwise it will break.

Now the Ocean version of Kong shows correctly as a Tie-In license:

Nope.
Thanks!
Re: Licence information
Great. I think the new presentation is much better. Thanks.

Not sure what the issue is with this one?StooB wrote: ↑Sun Jan 27, 2019 6:24 pm This one's a bit of a cheat too:

It works though, and that is how it's stored on the other site.

Re: Licence information
It bundles three licences together ("Daley Thompson/Adidas/Lucozade"), I suppose.PeterJ wrote: ↑Sun Jan 27, 2019 6:31 pmNot sure what the issue is with this one?StooB wrote: ↑Sun Jan 27, 2019 6:24 pm This one's a bit of a cheat too:

Re: Licence information
To complicate things further, should Daley Thompson's Decathlon have a "tie-in" with Daley Thompson and an "inspired by" Track and Field?
Re: Licence information
I think if 99.9% of titles have an improvement with the work done today, the remainder will probably have to wait for another day.

That's one for ZXDB Einar Saukas
Re: Licence information
Iv'e moved things back to the body now to allow for multiple rows. I preferred the previous layout, but this caters for those 2 oddities that StooB encountered.
That's me done for today. I have a weeks worth of work shirts to iron.

Re: Licence information
Just to be clear, ZXDB follows Martijn's WoS model that each game can have only 1 license "product" (either as official tie-in or unofficial inspiration). Although the license "product" may have multiple owners (like this and this).
I could change this model if needed, but I don't think that's necessary. In this case, I think it should be marked as official tie-in for Daley Thompson only. Both Adidas and Lucozade are paid advertises, not really tie-ins.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: Actually it seems Adidas is a paid advertise, and Lucozade is a co-owner of the "Daley Thompson" brand (together with Daley Thompson himself). Thus my suggestion is adding a comment about Adidas advertise, and leave a single license with 2 owners.

Re: Licence information
A long long time ago.
There are two other Adidas games, https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=85 and https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=87 .Einar Saukas wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 3:00 pm Just to be clear, ZXDB follows Martijn's WoS model that each game can have only 1 license "product" (either as official tie-in or unofficial inspiration). Does an advertiser only become a licensor when their name is in the title?
Clicking on Adidas at WoS brings up all three titles: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseek ... loadpics=3
