Dave Perry acrostic...

Post by 5MinuteRetro »

...okay, so here, at around the 17-minute mark, Mr Games Animal, Dave Perry, alludes to an acrostic printed in some or other magazine. In true Alan Partridge style, he appears to have had the last laugh. However, the video blurs out the relevant mag/apology, and I'd love to know what it said/which mag it was. Does anyone here know?

(As an aside, even though I think Perry remains a bit of a prick, I'm kind of enjoying his current brand of unapologetic/unreconstructed retro nonsense. I mean, it's utterly terrible, but eminently watchable precisely because of that.)

No idea but Perry was involved with Paragon Publishing and he mentions a rival so I think, given the era when he was active (1992 onwards I'd say?), then it's possibly one of the EMAP or Future Publishing magazines as I think most of others had disappeared by then. I certainly don't recall the article but in that era I was only really buying Edge.

Thanks for the reminder about Dave Perry. That got me looking up his Alan Partridge-style melt-down on Games Master  What a tool! "Never played it" - he was blatantly going for the short-cut.

Aye. And you know he's never really let go of that moment, even though he claims to have done so. You can see him almost visibly tense whenever it's mentioned in modern interviews. But, for all that, I do have a soft spot for the prat -- he seems to me to be a guy that sampled the lower tiers of stardom and then got hooked on his own hype. Can't be easy to be a has been that also never quite was.

Don't know. Ask him? Very difficult to work out. Even after all this time. Perhaps someone else knows. Email him? Rather a waste of time. Really not worth it. You'll have to decide yourself. I'm not fussed. Still, who cares? Absolutely not me. Nobody here does either. I don't know why anyone even bothers. Do you? It's all ridiculous. Oh that's enough. The end.

This isn't the same Dave Perry that wrote Herbert's Dummy Run, is it?

That's right, it's the same Dave Perry also behind Earthworm Jim. The reason he's been so quiet for so long is that he's got bored of the millions he made from selling that cloud gaming technology to Sony and decided to make videos of him trawling through boxes of his old crap from the loft.

Yeah, who cares? Nostalgia is rubbish!

Loved your book, mind. Glad you bothered.

You also forgot to mention he shrank in height by about 18 inches...
