Mister Beep - Rubber Love: any way to download to a real Speccy?

Post by patters »

I enjoyed feeding my refurbed 48K with some of these demos to hear what amazing stuff could be achieved with the beeper:
https://web.archive.org/web/20170123211 ... music.html

I'm really curious to hear this one on real hardware, as it seems to be of substantially higher quality almost as if it's been run through a filter to clean it up:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160404072 ... r_Love.mp3

There's one track that gets close on hardware, one which I presume from the sound of it uses the same audio engine - that's Greetings to C64 from the Nebula Fight demo:
https://web.archive.org/web/20170123211 ... _fight.zip

Is anyone aware of where I could find code to run Rubber Love on a real Spectrum? There's a guy doing it on some kind of DIY Spectrum on YouTube here, but maybe he knows the composer or something:

You could try contacting him through WoS https://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/ ... ter%20Beep

We last exchanged emails in late 2016, and WoS shows his latest activity was in 2017. Hope he’s doing okay.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. I'm a bit concerned that his entire website has gone offline, when it was obviously such a passion of his.

Well, you never know. Maybe he decided to give it a rest and went on to live on a desert island somewhere. Or travel around the world in a C5.

I might have missed what you're after, but it's a track as part of the intro to the Speccy game ZEN II. If you load that into your speccy you'll hear it as intended.

There are only two beeper tracks that I go out of my way to listen to, the Xecutor music, and Mister Beep's Rubber Love :D

Yes, I want to play it on my actual Speccy rather than listen to the MP3, but that ZENII intro track isn't Rubber Love - it's not the same tune as the MP3 I linked above. Are there several or am I missing something?

Sorry—press space—it toggles between two tracks, one of which is Rubber Love.

Awesome. Thread closed :)
I can't see anyone bettering this track with a beeper.

It sounds every bit as clean on real hardware, amazing - so there was indeed no trickery. My only niggle is that it's missing the basic BEEP lead-in intro of the MP3 though, which I think highlights how amazing this is for a regular old 48K. I think the only beeper music I've heard previously that is this clear is from the game Earthshaker that was on a covertape I had.

Probably same here. Mister Beep is an "artist" through and through—he'll never create a ditty that suits a particular game (as I once asked him to!), but he puts heart and soul into what he does and sometimes makes magic. I love that.

I have to say that his tunes really didn't belong on the Sid Spanners games though, but that's Digital Prawn's fault for choosing them

This second song is "Psionic Activity" from "A thousand furious bees" album.

Also, the title ZEN II song called "Spring is Coming" from the same album is really amazing.

Mister Beep is a great musician, his beeper tunes I like more than any AY song.

Hehe, I recognise that screen! It's a popular reversing-camera screen for use in cars. (I've got a couple of them for tinkering purposes.) They take composite video input, so obviously great for connecting to a Spectrum.

Ah, of course: It's a nude Ben Heck portable Spectrum! :)
