Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Aye I saw it too. It was all unregistered visitors. No idea why. Did someone link here from somewhere busy on FB or something?
Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Clearly it was the UK not leaving the EU inspired lots of people to look back at historically successful UK businesses that continue to do well, like, erm, Sinclair.
Or post-Halloween lots of parents were gorging on the sweets their children had secured from trick or treating, and were reminiscing about their own youth of cold October's doing the hold-your-breath-and-see-if-that-makes-it-load dance.

Did all the C64 owners launch a DDOS attack?
Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
If only there was some correlation between these numbers and numbers of posts...

Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Yes, I'm always intrigued by these things too.
Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Actually, according to various sources, most people in most places in the web are lurkers. They can even make 90% of people reading some content.Yes, I'm always intrigued by these things too.
And each of us is probably a lurker here and there. For me, Spectrum Computing is one of few places where I actually post.
That's why I'd like to see some discussion here It's not bad here but always could be better.

Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Occasionally I drop a link to this (and other forums) in the other forums that I am a member of.
That could account for a small number of visitors. But I suspect that either another web site posted a link, or maybe one, or more search engines are sending people here.
And yes, it’s typical that there are far more visitors who are not members, or members that are not logged in, than there are logged in members.

Pete P posted this thread on the 10th, I'm guessing it triggered an alarm somewhere in Mr Langdell's lawyers' offices...

Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
I've 'bigged up' (is that still a thing? ) this place a few times over on /r/zxspectrum, but none correlate to the recent spikes. Odd stuff and definitely interested to know what has driven it.. But we all know it'll ultimately be something really mundane!

Thank you for the mentions. It's all good stuff and appreciated DouglasReynholm
Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Some organizations "patrol" the web harvesting for information, and some of them use people instead of robots. So you can get a visitor peak.

Sometimes it's really scary when I read:

Then I feel like I'm alone here with those weird bots!

We hit another high on Monday. 393! Might have to start asking for small donations for a bigger server at this rate!

Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
Just realized that Wikipedia include the corresponding SC link of many games in his 'external links' entry section. For example, in Knight Lore. Sometimes include a Mobygames or KLOV link too.
Maybe that's another reason of the number of visitors.
And of course it's also a reason to see this site works! Congrats!

I bet it's some 'blue skies' computer conference somewhere, that happens to be called "Spectrum computing". All the delegates are googling it and coming here hoping to find out where the conference centre is.DouglasReynholm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 10:53 pm ...definitely interested to know what has driven it.. Re: Did I miss something yesterday?
When the delegates came across the memes thread they inmediately left the conference and any technologic way of life and started a new life as hippies living in the country, smelling daisies and producing cheese from goat milk.
