The downloadable version of the manual is temporarily unavailable, to avoid spoiling the surprise of what the cover looks like (backers are asked to help not spoil the surprise too, in any pics they post). Once it is back up, the manual is an excellent place to start. It's written in the same style as the classic Sinclair manuals, but has approximately twice the amount of content (maybe even three times, as it fits more on every page). I have a wirebound print-on-demand version of the manual, and it is a thing of beauty and joy.

Other than that, there will be a series of short taster videos soon (each less than 5 mins) giving an overview of some of the features.

Finally, there is an awful lot of tech documentation that's been collected and published over the last couple of years. That's mostly for devs to get stuck into though, so not the best thing for outside peeps to get an overview.

That was an interesting watch, thanks for posting it!

In my mind I had pictured the Next as a QL-sized or CPC-sized plank of a machine, but now I realise that it's much closer in size to the original Spectrum.

I am quite pleased with the latest developments on the Next.

All the things that I criticized were fixed, like the lack of ULAplus, no core source code, timings (still not perfect over HDMI, but better), etc. I installed the latest software version on my board (I'm a board-only backer so I had it for almost two years now) and it works beautifully: fast, lots of options, easy configuration.

I'm sure the rest of the backers will be very happy once their Next arrives! ;)

There is a non-final pdf without cover and without contents / index here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-RHnIB ... hTVcPqyHN4

On acrobat reader there may be typographical errors too but at least you can read it. There will be a better pdf version later.

I bought the basic model and as such received my tracking e:mail late last night, so looks like the waiting is finally over. Need to rush over to Argos this and purchase a tape recorder so I can load up some games old school style.

Loads of pics of Nexts being delivered today on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/specnext/ (no FB account required to view). There's an unboxing vid on there too.

Mine's due to be delivered today also!

I seem to recall they bought the pi's a while back, I think around the time they stockpiled the PSU's.. Well, that's what I'm choosing to believe..

Just saying that when I wanted to get some (for another project unrelated to the Next) the main source (to consumers) in the U.K. was out of stock of the standard Pi Zero model.

Pi Zeroes with a header were however still in stock (with a higher price of course).

Having read the manual, I think I'm gonna have to get one. Full 2MB with PiZero, natch.

Mind you, I'm still having trouble with their frankly bonkers use of looping constructs in the BASIC but other than that it looks like a fun language to tool around in.

The Zero W will work fine with NextPi (accelerator distro based on DietPi), however it won’t make use of the WiFi.

If any future alternate bare metal applications are developed then these may well not support the Zero W (as the hardware differences are not flattened out for bare metal like they are in linux).

Finally, remember that the 2x20 header should be female not male, and should be fitted to the “wrong” side of the Pi - so that the SD card is on the upper side when the Pi is plugged into the male header on the Next board.

I’ve not opened the ZX Spectrum Next yet.

However, I do strongly recommend you use a high quality power filter, this video shows a cut-down version, but I recommend the genuine unit described in my comment. This genuine unit, now with a double layer, gold plated OFC flux capacitor, please contact me, lead sales manager, at https://tinyurl.com/urugt28 where I can offer these at a heavy discounted manager’s special price (for a limited time only) of $399.00
