Romantic games

Post by Juan F. Ramirez »

Because it's St. Valentine's day we must make a list of Spectrum games with romantic heroes:

- Mikie (the most obvious)
- BC Quest for Tyres
- Hunchback
- Ghosts 'n' Goblins

Any others?

Well, I suppose I have to mention Zx Larry, my remake of the famous Larry game.

Although calling it "romantic", just like in other cases mentioned here, is risky at best ;)

Hopefully it was obvious I was being facetious. Even in the early 80s that game seemed *very* questionable.

Another questionable relationship was "Back To Skool" where it appeared that Eric was just using Hayley in other to have her do some of his lines.

Ant Attack might have slipped into sexist tropes with its 'rescue the helpless heroine' plot had it not had the option to play as the female rescuing the bloke. "My Hero! Take me away from all this".

Errm, no, I think this game should be included in a different thread topic, not this...

Isn't Phantis rescuing her love interest ? I mean, there are some hearts floating around in outro. Still, I suspect the whole love thing was just excuse to bring some action on screen. I wonder if there is true romantic game.

Speaking of post-romantic games, does Jet Set Willy count ?
Also, Olli & Lisa had some inter gender tense in story, no ? I'm not sure, the opposite sex stuff was waaaaaay above my level when I played the game (oh, good old uncomplicated Dungeon & Dragons & Speccy period of my life). :D

According to the instructions, she must rescue her 'expedition mate' so it seems no love here... apparently!

There's Hunchback. Although by all accounts once Esmerelda's free she'll ditch him and cop off with one of the guards.

Get Me To The Church On Time is a text adventure where you have to get the groom to his wedding after his stag night.

In terms of anti-romance there's Run, Bronwyn, Run where you have to help a Princess escape in order to avoid marrying a loathsome Prince.

3 weeks in paradise, gotta rescue the wife and kids.
I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...
