ZXDB Update Thread

Post by PeterJ »

I will post here advance warning of when I will be updating our version of ZXDB. Because we choose to delete the database first, there will be 5-10 minutes when the main website will be unavailable.

The next update will on Thursday 16 November at some time between 20:00 and 22:00 GMT.

Good evening,

The update is complete (a little earlier than planned). One of the new games as Einar mentioned in another thread is Break/Space.

Cheers Peter, there's a glitch though - no file downloads appear for anything.

I suppose I hit it at wrong time and got error message like "there is no base zxdb" or something like that in my browser :)

Maybe something less scary like "website update. please check later" or "website under maintaining" would be better?

I will try and be more accurate with my timings in future.

I found it. The PHP file which controls the downloads had an http in it, rather that https.

Seems to be working now. Thanks for reporting it. I'm off to bed now.

Good evening,

We have updated our ZXDB to the latest version. You can see all the latest games added here:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=301

Just a reminder that we always need extra help with screens, and there are simple instructions here:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=51

Note that some email services seem to block .scr files even if they are zipped up (probably because the same extension is used for Windows Screensaver files and there was a period when these were used for spreading viruses), so its probably best to put them onto Dropbox or similar, and email us the sharing link.

We also have a number of development plans for improving the site, so if you have good MySQL & PHP skills and a working knowledge of the ZXDB database let us know.

Even if you don't have development skills and want to help out with other tasks as they come up, please drop me a PM.

Hi. Make sure you include music authors on Jaime Grilo's games.
Also the first game fro 2008 seems to be one from Luca Bordoni announced on the AGD facebook group.
My 2017 collection lacks two titles, the rerelease from Alessandro Grussu and Pink Pills announced on WoS. The last update will be at the end of January and I'll be good to go. I recommend you take a look at my tag "unlisted" (by zxdb) from time to time.

Hi,

I am not sure where to post this so I am trying here, feel free to move this into better section (if any exist).

Terrapins should go to category Arcade Game: Maze instead of Arcade game: Platform https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=30430

The same goes for Sorceress 2: The Mystic Forest it should be Arcade Game: Maze instead of Arcade game: Platform https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=30431

Cheers!

e.

P.S. I see there is much more of these, I will try to make a list.

Hi. Sorceress 2 looks to me like an Arcade: Adventure, sort of Sabre Wulf

Pietro Bros has been updated.
I may sound a bit negative here but I got completely confused with all these versions of Pietro Bros.

It was a great game from the very start. But later Christian started doing dozens of updates which removed some bugs but introduced new ones or removed some features that you actually liked.

Now you have all these versions circulating somewhere and it's like version 1.21 has something that 1.35 doesnt have and vice versa and which one should I play?

But of course, include in the database the latest one as the author's choice. End of my rant ;)

^^^
This latest Pietro Bos is the same as the cassette version. I've been playing the NES original game. You can choose when Mario lands into the game after losing a life. Pietro respawns automatically so sometimes you cannot avoid bumping into enemies when starting. Mario brakes fast when you hold up keys. Pietro gets far more slippery and you barely can control this slipping. I would suggest the author to take a look at Dead Flesh Boy where controls make a difference to manage inertia.
