5 - Christie's impudence [7,5]

One left, not the best clue thinking about it – the word impudence is a bit of a foolish mistake.

Oh, I thought you were kidding!

Yep, Agatha's Folly.

I'm not sure if 'impudence' should have been 'imprudence'.

2 correct answers for one clue; or am I looking at this the wrong way with my eyes closed on a Tuesday afternoon?

I got hung up on it being Linford or the Auction house and couldn't think of any other Christie that it might be!

In terms of the cryptic clue guide what sort of category does that clue fit into?

That's a compound clue, a number of straight clues together.

I heard a root vegetable was owned by this crime writer. [6,9,6]

EDIT - sorry this is a bit of an in joke, this is in the SC archive but is NOT a classic era game!

Ah yes, Carrot Beetroot, the famous flame haired, rubicund flatfoot. When she's not battling with a drink problem she solves crimes by consulting a magical Potato that inadvertently always leads to the vital clue.

I've seen worse on ITV3...
