Original WoS Pages Now Available

Post by PeterJ »

For anyone who prefers the original WoS look and feel we now offer links to both the new site, and (with the help of archive.org) the old one too.

Towards the bottom of each 'Classic Game' page you will see the normal other sites section:

Click on 'New World of Spectrum (Spectrum Archive) for the new look, or 'Original World Of Spectrum (Spectrum Archive) for the classic look.

For example:

Nice. I actually do miss the classic look very much (much more compact and without all these white spaces). I don't suppose it'd be possible to offer it (or something very similar) as an alternative choice of template here, for ZXDB itself?

Thanks Peter, it's really nice to have old style wos pages available.
And somehow sad at the same time...

Glad you like it akeley.

Never say never, but I doubt it. The whole site is built around Bootstrap to make sure it renders properly on devices of all sizes. Around 50% of visitors use tablet or mobile to visit our site now.

Glad you like it. Yes, it is a little sad to wave goodbye to the past.

Another good feature, Peter, but I suppose it's included for nostalgic reasons as we have here all we need about the Spectrum as SC is clearly a more complete and updated DB.

And now is the moment of insisting, again -sorry-, of removing the original WoS score because I see even WoS has removed it.

If I want to check the old WoS score, I just click on the old WoS link. This is SC and I don't see why it has to include an score of another site.

... and also I insist of having our own game score... but well, it's just my humble opinion! ;)

I noticed quite a few pages that are only available as archive.org snapshots if the 'loadpics=3' portion of the URL is removed. Maybe that part could be omitted if it's not necessary?

Went looking for splATTR (https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/1 ... um/splATTR) and see that the New WOS link points to an infoseek entry, which no longer works. Archived Old WOS link works fine.

Morning Paul,

Yes, I get the same result. It works fine for other titles I tried like Biff for example. Not sure what's going on there sorry.

PS - The TipShop have the same issue.

We were under the impression that old infoseek links would continue to work on the new WoS. Maybe they have had a change of heart.

Both links are working fine now.

I guess Lee is still following this forum :)
