The best classic Speccy game beginning with B: discussion

Post by PeteProdge »

2018 sees Atic Atac the winner of the As, now we move onto the Bs...

Straight away, off the top of my head, Batty springs to mind and that could be my possible vote. Then there's the absolutely spot on Bubble Bobble, which I'm also considering for my vote.

It's an incredibly easy game, but Bruce Lee was massive fun and I've been playing it a lot recently.

Oh and now I've just thought of Back To Skool which really is a strong nominee. Then there were those 10 million Batman licenses that Ocean put out.

And just to ensure the budget labels get a bit of representation, what about Codies's BMX Simulator?

Here are my contenders so far...
 • Back To Skool by Microsphere
 • Batman (1986 - Jon Ritman's isometric 3D game) by Ocean
 • Batman : The Caped Crusader by Ocean
 • Batman : The Movie by Ocean
 • Batty by Elite
 • BMX Simulator by Code Masters
 • Bomb Jack by Elite
 • Bruce Lee by US Gold
 • Bubble Bobble by Firebired
 • Bugaboo The Flea by Quicksilva
But I am not the sole decider of the games to be considered. This is where you come in. Mention worthy Speccy games beginning with B, and they'll be included in the poll that starts next Monday.

Remember these are for the classic games - commercially released into the mainstream, so no demos or homebrew stuff in this.

I would say Back to Skool just for the feeling of actually being in a school , still being a fun game, a good achievement in programming, sheer time spent playing the game.

If SkoolDaze wins S, I would say Bruce Lee, a well made beat em up platformer, a rare type of game.

2 more considerations...

Beach Head
Beaky And The Egg Snatchers
I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...

So it seems this website has no way to simply browse the games database, e.g. view games by year, title, category, etc.

You can search by year, category, etc, but it would be nice to have alphabetic browsing, too.

Hi Joefish. As Rorthron mentions you can search by year, title, category, author, machine type and publisher using the advanced search form on the home page. Let me know if you have any problems. It also has the option to find a random game within the categories set, and you can pick multiple categories to do complex searches as well. Note that all searches have to be for 3 or more characters.

It was also announced just before Christmas that the quick search (The one at the top of the home page) now searches all these items combined:

viewtopic.php?f=29&t=242

Alphabetic browsing is a good idea, and it is on the list for development. A post detailing areas that people can help with (including this) will be published in the next few days. We are working on another fairly large piece of development currently but will publish timescales for this when the current work is finished.

Bangers and Mash by Alternative Software
Blind Panic by Your Sinclair

I think "Blood 'n' Guts" will be "Fantastic Voyage" to most so best left as F.

Oh go on then, can we have:

Beebul by Scorpio Gamesworld. Even though it's literally impossible I love it, but I'd need several pints in me to vote it best of the lot.
