Cosmic Pirate seems to have a signature in the bottom left, but I cannot make it out exactly, even on Mobygames' higher-resolution scan.

Trouble Brewing by Silversoft:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/5 ... ble_Brewin

The artist seems to be Phil Gascoine just by the drawing style and by the partial appearance of his signature (down, center). The SC inlay didn't spot it well, but the scan available at Mort 's site is better to see:

https://archive.org/download/Spectrumin ... nlay01.jpg

The signature is too similar, what do you think?

Yes that's his signature.

It's also worth mentioning he did other work for Silversoft (Robin of Sherlock).

Samurai Warrior by Firebird:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/4 ... ai_Warrior

The game is based on the comic by Stan Sakai.

If we check the inlay, we can see Sakai's signature down, right. it is clearly the author of the cover.

You're correct. (It was originally drawn by Sakai for the cover of the comic 'Anything Goes!' Issue #6 1986, but reused for the game release in 1988).

Back to the Future Part III (367): Drew Struzan
The cover is the same as the movie poster: http://www.impawards.com/1990/back_to_t ... t_iii.html

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... e_Part_III

The cover to Back to the Future Part II (366) looks like it is not actually a movie poster, but has been painted using a poster as reference.

Some of the PSS wargames series covers (Battle for Midway, Battle of Britain, Bismarck, Tobruk) are painted and signed by an artist whose name might be Roger Pearse.

Unfortunately the signatures are not very clear in the available scans:

(I think the last one might have a year number after the name, perhaps "85")

Panic (PSS) also has a signature, which looks like it could be the same artist's, but again the scan isn't clear.

Swords & Sorcery (PSS) does have the same signature. The scan is clear, but the surname is covered by a logo.

Of course, Panic was released in 1983, so it can't be "...89". Presumably it's "...82" or "...83", perhaps with a short diagonal underline.

This makes me think the date in the other signature might be "...86", with a similar underline.

It is Roger Pearse!

I have found a clear signature on a scan of Annals of Rome for the Amiga:

Image

https://www.hobbydb.com/marketplaces/ho ... 1f4a22fc33

I am confident it is the same signature as that in the PSS games Battle for Midway, Battle of Britain, Bismarck, Swords & Sorcery and Tobruk. So we can add Roger Pearse as cover artist for these titles.

It is not clear if it is the same signature as that in Panic and Les Flics (both by PSS). It could be, and I strongly suspect it is, but the scans aren't clear enough to say for certain, so I don't think we can add a cover art credit for them.

I could have just looked at Mobygames and avoided all that sleuthing!

So per Mobygames Roger Pearse did the covers of:

Annals of Rome
Bismarck
Tobruk: The Clash of Armour
Battle for Midway
Les Flics
Pool

Based on the signature we can also add:

Battle of Britain
Swords & Sorcery

All by PSS

I'm not sure we can follow Mobygames' credit for Annals of Rome. The inlay in the archive does not have a signature, and is different from the later Amiga/DOS version, which is signed by Roger Pearse. It is possible that the Spectrum inlay is also by Roger Pearse, but I don't think we can be sure. The Mobygames credit may only refer to the Amiga/DOS cover.
