Game art copied from elsewhere
Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
PeteProdge, this continues to be quite weird. The messages you mention were the ones I was getting in Chrome until yesterday. Since yesterday vgy.me links have worked fine for me in Chrome and all other browsers on both Windows 10 and Android 7.0 (Nougat).
I'll try to use another site for future links and maybe change the old ones if there continue to be problems.

Probably down to the DNS offering from whatever internet connection you're on. It seems that vgy.me may well have fixed their certificate-pinning issue, but that may yet to filter through across to all ISPs.

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
Despite owning that cassette I clearly never looked at it very closely before, I always thought that Mastertronic logo was a kilt.
Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
I thought that barbarian cover was really cool, and thought the game would be a bit more RPG like. Especially when I bought Journey's End and wasn't disappointed with that......

And now, a Spectrum magazine copying game art for their own ends...
This is Gremlin's Impossamole...
And here is Sinclair User's 'Specman' from Feb 1992, who closely resembles the subterranean rodent.
Pretty brazen!

I think the tiger in the Rygar picture also comes from Frank Frazetta:
The Huntress, by Frank Frazetta
It appears elsewhere, such as the cover of Legend of the Amazon Women (reversed left to right):

Actually, I think it is also in the Death Stalker cover, above.

PeterJ we're going to need an increased buttock allowance, can you look for a plugin.
Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
I'm about to increase the buttock count again...
One of the women in the Legend of the Amazon Women comes from this Frazetta picture (again reversed left to right):
Escape from Venus, by Frank Frazetta
(Clothes, especially women's, are in short supply in most of Frazetta's art.)

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
Frazetta's a fan of Robert Crumb by the looks of it...

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
I'm not quite sure about the archer. The pose looks a bit different to me.
Bang on about the dinosaurs. I suspect the woman on the top right is based on Raquel Welch from the same film, but can't point to the source image.

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
Looking at the Legend of the Amazon Women art again, you can really see how it was cobbled together from disparate sources. The woman in the top right is levitating in thin air (and doesn't seem to have a left foot). The woman immediately to the left of her is twice the size as the woman standing next to her in the water. (The size difference is not due to perspective: look at the positions of their feet in the water). The allosaurus' tail disappears half way (behind one woman's hair).
Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
Also in some obscure game called Kentilla:The same Frazetta picture is also copied in Galivan (no fewer than three times):

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
Obscure for you, maybe Kentilla was a well-known text adventure back in the day, written by Derek Brewster of Codename MAT I & II fame. I played it on the Spectrum as well as on the C64. Ah the good ol' days...
Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
I wasn't sure if Ralf was being ironic. I thought Kentilla was one of the best-known text adventures.
Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
Well, actually I didn't know about Kentilla till now and just found it by googling for inspired inlays. So you say I missed something important? Well I'll have to give it a go I guess
And going back to inspired art...
