Any footy / Soccer games for the next?

Post by 1333david »

I've recently been looking for a playable footy game on the ZX Spectrum and have been pretty disappointed with what I've seen. For example, Kick off 2 could be greatly improved. I haven't seen anything on the Speccy since 1990. Does the Next have any footy games available/planned as this might sway me to get one.

Hi,

No soccer games in development as far as I can see. If you use Facebook it is worth joining this group on Next Games:

I'd love something along the lines of Match of the Day with even better graphics.

I remember having created a few sprites to pitch myself a sensible soccer like game for ZX, but never put that project into gear unfortunately.

The two player game unlocked for the second KS will be a soccer game and is being written by Jim Bagley and Michael Flashware. Jim's written a few soccer games for consoles in his career.

I enjoyed Match Day and Match Day 2. I thought soccer games (sorry I was born on the wrong side of Atlantic) were of generally decent quality on the Spectrum. Baseball, otoh, was done badly probably because the programmers never played nor understood the game. Soccer wouldn't have had to suffer that knowledge gap in the UK but as I write this I recall Jon Ritman saying somewhere he didn't really know much about the game :D
