Re: Top 100 ZX Spectrum Games
The absolutely 100% correct choice for number one!
Still the best computer game out of anything I've played on any system. Deserved to twice be on the YS covertape and it really should have been a hit first time round.

What place is Black Raven?
Re: Top 100 ZX Spectrum Games
I used to love this as a kid but I don't play it that much anymore.
Success depends on luck as much as any kind of strategy, but that's to be expected from what is essentially a digital board game.
It's definitely behind both Rebelstar games and I also prefer Lords of Chaos which is severely underrated.
Still a top, top game though.

Re: Top 100 ZX Spectrum Games
Thanks you @jdanddiet for keeping us in constant suspense throughout this top 100 saga. It's been a lot of fun!
Re: Top 100 ZX Spectrum Games
It was certainly a hit with me from the original Games Workshop release.PeteProdge wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 3:25 pm The absolutely 100% correct choice for number one!

Lords of Chaos, Laser Squad and the Rebelstar games are certainly better as single player experiences, or even with two, but there was nothing quite like a big mulitplayer game of Chaos.
I'd think that the key things that make it a winner are:
1. The basics of the game are very easy to pick up, so it was never too hard get new players involved.
2. It's quick to play. If you lose early, you can play another game in a few minutes.
3. It's also fun to watch even once you've been eliminated.
4. The random elements are a great leveler. You might get incredibly lucky with a Golden Dragon or conversely fail with a Zombie.
5. If you've got a decent number of players they can gang up against the skilled/lucky players who've won all the games so far.
One of my friends lived right next door to our school and we'd gather round at his place at the end of the day for a few rounds. We experimented with a few other games but nothing else quite hit that spot; the closest was probably Viking Raiders although that's a budget BASIC affair that tops out at four players.

Thanks everyone for your comments and interest - it's been fun!
Re: Top 100 ZX Spectrum Games
Chaos is still a wonderful game and I have to wonder how many people were introduced to it through the YS covertape (it’s where I found it!)
My son loves playing it as it’s still quite unique, it’s one of those games that transcends the hardware it was written for.
