Collecting missing screens

Post by PeterJ »

Spectrum Computing is looking to have a complete set of screens for all available ZX Spectrum games. Can you help us fill the gaps?

All you need is a little bit of spare time, and an emulator such as FUSE.

Instructions and a list of those titles we need screens for are available here:

http://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=51

Just upload your files to Dropbox or similar and drop me a PM with the link to the files. Screens will be shared with other sites that use ZXDB.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Peter.

Spectra Blitz is a special case, I guess? Is it possible to display the Spectra screen modes in this website's viewer?

There's also a Spectra Snake demo by Bloodbaz and a Spectra version of AGD by Jonathan Cauldwell, but I don't know if they'd count as full releases (they're certainly not in ZXDB)? Fruitcake

Just to complicate things a bit more, all of the things I've mentioned here can also work in the normal video mode too!

Equally, I can emulate enough hardware to run the Datel Vox Box Demo, but it has literally no screen output. It would be either a blank screen or a BASIC listing?
Just like before, it's yesterday once more.

When I have a little time, maybe in a few months, I would like to help out and collect nice screens for the archive :)

I believe SPECTRA provides the same kind of multicolor 8x2 as the NIRVANA engine, correct? If so, then these screens can be saved as MLT files using Fuse 1.4.0 or later.

Some of the video modes are substantially different, with double attribute bytes, and some have a 64-colour palette as well. I don't think there's any file format that covers those modes.

Additionally, the software has to detect the presence of the Spectra interface, so that can't be done in the current version of Fuse.

Apparently I can't use PMs because I haven't posted enough yet, but I made screens for my own game (Break/Space) and also for Paul van der Laan's 8-bit font collection (which I used in the game itself) while I had two minutes spare:

Is there a way to submit database corrections, incidentally? There's a minor detail on the Break/Space page I'd like to change. :)

Don’t known if Einar is here- otherwise just tell me and I’ll make sure it gets corrected

Nope, couldn't find the setting. Cream crackered. I'll do it tomorrow.

If you reach 5 posts by then try and send a PM and let me know how you get on.

Thank you!

Actually ZXDB already contains Break/Space screenshots, but it seems SC wasn't updated to latest ZXDB release yet. Please take a look and let me know if you prefer to have these screenshots replaced with yours:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/zxdb/si ... s/0030410/

Also ZXDB stores this image of Paul's fonts, incidentally it's an image I created myself and uploaded to WoS years ago:

I will work with Peter to find out the reason this image doesn't appear in SC right now, and check the files you sent. Thank you!

You can either post it here, or send me an email (it's easy to find if you google it) or PM.

The loading screens for Break/Space are (obviously) identical but I think my new in-game screen is better than the old one if you don't mind switching it.

Your screen for the font collection is definitely better than the one I made, though - you should keep yours!

Thanks for checking it! Peter has already fixed it so the old image is now appearing again. You can see it here:
