Maria
Maria
Silly question I know, but how do you picture Maria? Is the arrow her top lip, or her chin? I've always seen it as her top lip (big chin), though when Juan posted a pic elsewhere today, I managed to see it as her chin (little chin). Time to vote and decide.
Re: Maria
Nose, think Simpsons character style. The black pixels are eyes.
Re: Maria
Fascinating topic! Now that you bring this up, I can see both a little and a big chin if I squint my eyes. It's like one of those images that can be two things at once, depending on how you look at it. Would Maria be an example of an optical illusion?

Re: Maria
Weirdos. I edited the big chin option to include nose, as it still separates a gurning Maria from the meeker one.
Re: Maria
I've added another pic to clarify.
Will we ever stop discovering the hidden depths of Matthew Smith's games?!
Re: Maria
I honestly thought this was going to be a "Smash or Pass" poll.

Nose and the 2 pixels below the nose are her mouth,

Re: Maria
Yeah I think that’s what I saw before now, but after patters’s comment about The Simpsons I can’t not see two eyes. On Willy too, under the brim of his hat, the negative space looks like an eye?
I don’t really see a nose or a chin on Maria now though, more of a square E.T. face.

Chortle! I don't think we have much say in the matter...

I've always thought it's a little chin.
But I also had an idea of Horace that we all know how it ended up.
Let's things stay as they are. No more shocks, please.

Re: Maria
By the way, why 'Maria' and not 'Mary'?
Perhaps an spanish/portuguese/italian ancestry?

Re: Maria
Looked at a few magazine ads to see if there was a pic of Maria anywhere.
Stumbled across this one, Maria isn't on it but there's a guy with a big pointy nose on it. Make of that what you will.

Re: Maria
No, the 2 black pixels separated with the white pixel have always been eyes on both Willy and Maria. Then the next row of pixels represents her cheek and nose, then in the next row of pixels - 2 white and then 2 black pixels - the black pixels represent her mouth. That’s what I meant.flatduckrecords wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 11:11 pm Yeah I think that’s what I saw before now, but after @patters’s comment about The Simpsons I can’t not see two eyes. Re: Maria
redballoon has it, she doesn't have a big or little chin, she has a rather square head and the big chin you refer to is her body and arm.
I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...
Re: Maria
This is wrong, you've (or whoever did this) captured 3 pixel lines each for faces, but you've taken Marias from 1 pixel higher than Willy. Her eyes are where Willys nose would be... If you move 1 line down, then you introduce the gap, 2 black pixels, which is her mouth.
Also, she's yelling "get the house tidied up ya lazy sod" and Willy is tight lipped. Yes m'lady.

Re: Maria
Maria is not an uncommon name here, wouldn't surprise me if there are more Marias than Marys. I'd say Maria fits better, as it sounds more stern to me.Juan F. Ramirez wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 1:00 am By the way, why 'Maria' and not 'Mary'?

I love the MM and JSW inlay art, and that barmy pointy nose character. I can't see Willy or Maria that way though, in fact I can't picture Willy at all. When I did the inlay for Sid Spanners, I was trying to channel Maria:
Re: Maria
To keep this on track, the arrow is pointing at Maria's nose. And now for something completely different.

Re: Maria
Maria's body is facing the camera, with her head turned towards Willy. It means her head is turned about 45 degrees.
Willy's body and head are sideways for the entire game.
Therefore the correct interpretation should be like this:
We can see 2 eyes and a month in Maria's face, 1 eye and a nose in Willy's face.

Re: Maria
So we can conclude from this that Willy is likely a prey animal, with a nearly 360° field of view, while Maria is a predator with stereoscopic vision.Einar Saukas wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 6:21 pm We can see 2 eyes and a month in Maria's face, 1 eye and a nose in Willy's face.
