NextSID - SID like sound with PT3 files

Post by emook »

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen.
9bitcolout and I would like to present NextSID release version 1.0!

As you may remember from a month ago I proposed an idea to 9bitcolout who immediately jumped in and wrote a brilliant NextSID engine. Over the last month 9bitcolout has refined and perfected an efficient SID like effect that can be applied to normal PT3 files using a modified version of the VT2 player.

Today we are releasing not one, but two players to listen to. These are : NextSID Interface by 9bitcolout which has a number tunes built and NextSIDPlayer by myself that lets you load PT3 files from SD.

We would REALLY appreciate your feedback and whether you would interested in using this in the demo or game. 9bitcolout has got the player down to between 9-15% CPU time. You will need the beta 3.01.10 for this!

You can download the files here (click Code - Download ZIP): https://github.com/em00k/NextSID

You can have a listen to how NextSID sounds with nik-o's awesome "Creep" cover here :

Heh fancy NEO SPECTRUMAN turning up here. That's cool and all but this is done without extra hardware, can be used in game and takes a regular PT3 file. We can make it go to 6 channels if we wanted to.

And probably more importantly the source code will be available for anyone to implement in their projects for free.

Either way this is more copying AtariSID which I prefer over pure SID.
