It had to happen eventually but it's a sad, sad day. More poignant for us on here than for many I expect.

Thank you Uncle Clive. Thank you so much for what you gave to us 40 years ago. It literally changed my life. I wouldn't be doing the job I do now, and providing for my family, without your little box of wonders.

A real shame as I don't think we ever got to know his recent thoughts on the Spectrum and computing in general. I for one am endebtted to him for all the hours of enjoyment and also my career in software.

I was briefly in the same place as him - a ZX Microfair in 1987 or 1988, but never met him.

Ah, Sir Clive. You were my entry point into computing. It's what's paid for the bricks that surround me. RIP.

This is one of those news you know you will receive some day, but wish that to happen as late as possible.

I cannot but express my sadness for the loss of the man responsible for my first forays into information technology, computer graphics, videogaming, you name it. And for contributing to an essential part of my personal imagery.

Few can say they've achieved as much in their time. To almost single-handedly revolutionise the way that the average person thinks of and interacts with technology is simply incredible. Yet to him, the computers were just a side-business. He applied his ingenuity to many other fields, with a palpable confidence and keenness to innovate.

Yes, it had to happen one day but I always believed it's not yet. You always seemed
so full of life and stamina, making new toys and marrying 40 year younger women.

We'll meet on the other side of the rainbow one day. The Speccy rainbow, of course.

So very upset about this, I've never met the man but him, the ZX81 and ZX Spectrum are such an important part of my life, it's like losing a close family member. Absolutely gutted.

Just read the news and I had that feeling that everything has an end. Really sad.

I will always see him as an innovative entrepeneur that introduced first electronics (watch, calculator, ...), then computing to the general public, at a very interesting prize. Even not many years ago release that bike... always something to invent.

Sir Clive made such an enormous impact on my childhood that this news has truly saddened me. I've enjoyed playing with the technical marvels he brought us no matter how much he was derided for the C5.
